You can make it go away temporarily, but it'll always come back. They're adequate on the track (yes, I disagree with Sean on this one) until you're an "advanced beginner" (probably ready to move out of C group for the BMW CCA school attendees around here). My brother-in-law recently welded his R4S backing plates to his rotors when the pads went away more quickly than he expected. Although, they are very clean...what little dust they make is silver as opposed to black. They do make good street/autox pads. They do not make good track pads if there is any heavy braking involved.
