Hey Guys, Some brilliant individual in his Jeep Grand Cherokee decided to run into the back of my M3 at about 65 MPH. So my question is short and simple, can anyone recommend a good place to get it repaired in Washington DC area, and anything I should be on the lookout for to make sure it was repaired correctly. Thanks, Joe

EM is a one man shop who buys and repackages. The gauge kit was JTD block with the JTD faceplace and standard gauges. It looks great and works good. Jamie at EM only takes cash or PayPal. My only problem with EM was speed of delivery. He seemed a little disorganized in that it took several weeks for him to put everything together. He was always missing some component. When it all finally showed up it went in smoothly except for some problems sealing the connections in the oil block. I found that Honda compression washers fit and work to seal the connections since the nearest BMW dealer is 30 miles away. Make sure you torque everything good or you will get leaks. I went through 6 washers before I got the leak to stop with the temp. sender. >> Subject: [E36M3] Eastern Motorwerks >> > Has anyone purchased any of there kits. Yes, Papyrus' Grand Prix Legends, very difficult to drive well but once you get the hang of it WOW! Too hard against the computer drivers but once hooked up against other humans via the internet there's nothing quite like it. Comes with the Nurburgring all 14 miles of it. Monaco, Silverstone, Zandvoort, Spa, Monza and more. Go to aftermarket sites like http://www.kotr.de/org/ and you can download Solitude (a mini Nurburgring near Stuttgart), Brands Hatch, Imola, Snetterton, Goodwood and more are being created quite often. It's the only PC game I've ever played that really made me feel like I was driving a car. >> Any more games that I should consider.

#5. Koni vs Bilstein - from Steve Hazard
Top
Date: Wed, 3 Jan 2001 14:30:42 -0500 From: Steve Hazard <SHazard@nhboston.com> Subject: Koni vs Bilstein Well Lowell don't hold anything back ;-) I guess your a Bilstein man....they do make a great product..... Both shocks work fine...both are well constructed, both are well represented in Racing...... I've been running Koni's since 1985 BTW in several makes of cars....with very few complaints. I currently run the externally Double Adj TC Kline(Series 28) Koni's. TC Kline chose to design all it's suspension packages with Koni's. Why is that? And TC Kline is very well respected in the BMW suspension tuning world. Other tuners carry Bilstein....some sell both brands....Like I said they both are great shocks. I know folks who have had trouble with Bilsteins, and also some with Koni's. I certainly don't have a Customer Service issue with TC Kline. So far they have been flawless. Here's the opening statement on TC's website regarding Koni construction: TC Kline Racing carries a complete selection of Koni shocks, struts, and strut inserts. Konis come in three basic constructions: mono-tube high-pressure gas, twin-tube hydraulic, and twin-tube low-pressure gas-hydraulic. Looks like they pretty much produce every conceivable option in shock design to me :-) Here's the URL BTW> http://www.tcklineracing.com/OPC/TCKROPC.html Last, Rebound Adj shocks don't hold a candle to Custom built Bump Adj shocks. 2 Clicks of Bump Adj at either end of my car with a flathead screwdriver yields major handling changes. My .02....... Steve Lowell Seaton posted> Rob, I don't know what to tell you. When you figure something out, let me know. :) Personally, I think the Bilstein's are way better made shocks than Koni's. They are high pressure gas charged; they are mono tube vs. twin tube for less sprung weight. Bilstein has a reputation for standing behind their products. Koni - good luck. And many of the Koni shocks can't be adjusted because the adjuster breaks off or won't work. The adjustability is really to compensate for wear. They wear out so fast they need adjustment! Koni's really sound like junk to me. I won't buy them.

Konis > really sound like junk to me. I won't buy them. I don't think I can fully agree with Lowell on this one. Twin-tube and De Carbon (gas charged) type shocks each have their pros and cons. Having worked with both Bilsteins and Konis I see no evidence that either one is better made than the other. (Incidentally Koni actually manufactures both types, although the ones we get for the M3 are all twin tube.) However the adjustment method of the rear Konis is just flat out goofy. For those not familiar with it, you have to fully compress the shock, and then delicately fish for the internal adjuster to engage all the while maintaining hard pressure on the shock shaft. For this reason the externally double-adjustable rears may be a better buy in the long run. You can also have the singles rebuilt to adjust externally, although I think they'd end up costing as much as the doubles. I've never personally encountered a Koni whose adjuster has broken internally, although I'm sure it could happen. It's been a while since I last read the instructions - maybe I should! - but I seem to recall there were warnings about this. Ease of adjustment aside, I've found the Konis to work very well, and after three track seasons and a bunch of road miles, mine show no signs of going limp. What I really wish is that we could get any of the Japanese adjustable shocks for the M3, such as the Tokikos, or else British Spax units. Choice is good! Neil 96 M3 - Koni/H&R

#8. Door Molding Gap - from david tow

Date: Wed, 03 Jan 2001 13:01:07 -0800 From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: Door Molding Gap Happy New Year to you all! While I was waxing my car last week, I'd noticed that the right door's side molding had a noticeable gap between it and the metal (it was not there last time I waxed it). I checked all the other moldings right away, and they were nice and tight. I suspect that this piece has just been slightly distorted due to old age. My question is: is there anything I could do to close this gap without replacing it with a new one? The car has had about 53,000 miles, and everything is in top shape including the slightly out-of-shape molding. It ended up being that one of the clips that hold the molding in place was broken. I'd check those first, since they're really cheap to replace.
