#1. 17x8.5" wheels option? - from Paul Elliott

I'd love a set of Factory Forged 5 spokes but it's impossible to find four 8.5"ers all around.<< What's wrong with the wheels sold as the wheel upgrade option on the '99s? I have them...Theyre the polished dbl spoke Motorsport wheels...I dont know theyre exact weight, but the offset is sure right, theyre great looking, and they come in the size youre looking for....Or, are you suggesting that, if you buy a 'set', you need to get the staggered sizes with 2 x 7.5 and 2 x 8.5? I would hate to think thats the case... I mean, BMW gets somewhere near $700 a piece for them, and I would hate to think you cant get 4 of any size you want, provided they are made in that size...which they are! _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3 <25000 mi Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift kit and Clutch Stop; Skaggs Pedals; X-brace; Sound by Kenwood Excelon, Polk, JL Audio

#2. Supercharger help needed ! - from Rob

Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 21:11:22 -0700 From: "Rob" <motor@cadvision.com> Subject: Supercharger help needed ! My partner just got a '99 M3/2 with a supercharger and we need some help! From what we can tell and from discussions with ERT it appears to be an ERT kit. There are no markings on anything but it does use a Vortec blower and uses an adj fuel press. reg. for enrichment of the stock injectors, which again points towards ERT and not Dinan or RMS. Here are the problems: 1-The car will only make 2-3psi of boost in any gear and at any given RPM. We assume a slipping belt or boost leak but can not pinpoint either. Are we missing something obvious? 2-According to a Dinan MIPP that we plugged in the car has stock DME programming and ERT also tells us they don't modify the programming, but we are able to hit ~7000RPM before the rev limiter. I'm more familiar with my '95 M3 but I think the limiter on a 3.2L is ~6700RPM? Is it possible for this car to have some other type of program? Thanks for the help, Rob '95 3.0L - Naturally aspirated

Date: Fri, 5 Jan 2001 20:39:50 -0800 From: "Chris Teague" <cteague@home.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Am I destined to hate my car? [also long] Sean, The 96-99 M3's do have smaller (225) front tires stock than the 95's (235), *but* the wheel size is the same, 7.5". The 235's are actually just a tad big for a 7.5" wheel. So I don't think there is much difference in front traction. The rears are 245's with 8.5 inch wheels, a significant increase, but that should only increase the rear traction, not decrease the front. If that were the only difference, it may understeer more, but only due to the higher rear traction, which is probably a good thing. But the 96-99 cars have more caster, which gives more front camber change, a good thing. And they have a larger rear sway bar, which should restore some of the balance. So there are several variables that have been changed. In short, I don't think there is a large difference in balance between the 95 and later cars, and if I had to choose one in stock condition, I would go for the larger rear wheels/swaybar combo of the later cars. IMHO. But it's close. I think BMW did this mostly to reduce wheel spin, not change the balance of the car. Of course, 8.5" or 9" wheels all the way around I think is better than the staggared setup for sure. I just talked to Shelly BMW yesterday, and they said that the M Roadster/Coupe won't be here for another 8-9 *months*. They should have the demo E46 M3 by the end of the month according to Kevin Hite. I still am hoping for a 4 door version. A friend of mine who is a bit of a "fanatic" about cars. I told him about my problem and before I knew it, he was taking a rubber mallet to the bolts, tapping them just hard enough to get them to fit into the holes. The hardest thing was wanting to take the car out and feel the difference, oh well. The so-called "flurries" which weren't supposed to "stick" turned out to be about three inches that did "stick". I really don't like God's sense of humor. Captain Hags '95 M3 _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

When we put Eibach's on my son's 325 we had to get a different Bilstein from stock because of the difference in ride height. The Eibach's lowered the car about 1-2 inches and the standard shock would have been much too long. Haven't changed the M3 yet so can't speak specifically on it.
