I was on this website called http://www.whalentire.com and saw the 245/40/17 for sale for $109.00 each. Are these good tires? How do they stack up to the Michelin Pilots? Thanks, Roman S. 96 ///M3 Sliding around corners is really fun!!!

I couldn't put them on my M, it would just suck too bad. They are fine for covering distance but they are no where near the performance of the Pilot Sports and other similar tires. They do have a nice look if you care about that. At full tread depth they are very squirmy even beyond their low grip. My car feels like it's sliding BEFORE the ABS comes on. It actually wiggles around. It does not do this on R1s, Toyo RA1s, Kumho V700s, or even my Michelin Artic Alpine snow tires. YMMV but I doubt it. #3. GT3 Brakes - from Steve D'Gerolamo

Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 22:29:23 -0500 From: "Steve D'Gerolamo" <steved3@idt.net> Subject: GT3 Brakes Steve, This just isn't any M3...it's a e46M3!!!!!!!!! Where, how, who.....geeezzz;-)) ============================================== This was our 2nd E46 M3 installation (in Germany). The stock brakes use 325x28 mm crossdrilled rotors, single piston floating calipers (cast iron weighing approx 13 lbs each). The GT3 Long Distance brakes use the GT3's 4-piston monoblock calipers weighing 7.5 lbs each and rotors with 380x32mm and cast holes. Here's the car after the fronts have been installed (we didn't get a chance to put on the 322mm rears yet)....http://www.ultimategarage.com/E46M3Sideview.JPG . When the new M3 was tested by Auto Motor und Sport, they indicated that the stock brakes were still insufficient under track conditions. Then Sportauto tested the M3 on the Nürburgring and surprisingly offered an opposite opinion....that the brakes were perfect under any conditions. Now the car was tested recently in France by the French Sportauto. Their comment....the only severe fault of the car is a lack of brake endurance under frequent, heavy braking. BMW must correct this definitely. Another French auto magazine (Echappement) wrote.....the brakes are absolutely insufficient due to the heavy vehicle weight and insufficient quality of the rotors. The stock brakes from BMW will be more than enough for repeated stops from our 65mph speed limits here in the states. Besides, BMW has other issues to contend with for the E46 M3 right now. Its a great car and worthy successor to the E36 model. One of our customers is bringing in his E46/M3, Z8 and X5 for similar brake upgrades. SD (PS- where's Duane Collie these days...we now have a full GT3 kit for the E21 320i) ============================== Steve D'Gerolamo - The Ultimate Garage - Tel 201-262-0412 *****Note- new email address is ultgar@earthlink.net *****

#4. Excellent deal on a CPO 1997 M3 - from Will Land
Top
Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 23:56:29 -0500 From: "Will Land" <wland@erols.com> Subject: <FS> Excellent deal on a CPO 1997 M3 Group, I saw today what looked like a great opportunity on an M3 (at a dealership!). Details are below: 1997 M3 - VIN# WBSBG9329VEY76087 Clean CarFax report White 2 door with Mulberry interior(gray) 5-speed BMW Certified pre-owned! 39,774 miles on the clock Options: Luxury Package, Heated Seats, Harmon Kardon sound upgrade with 6 disc CD changer, Keyless entry/Alarm, Split folding rear seats, Full on board computer, New Michelin Pilot Sports. They were originally asking $32,995 for the car. The way I knew about it is that I take my car to this dealership for service and started talking to the used car sales manager about it. It has been on their floor for just about 45 days and they really want to sell it. The guy told me that they are looking to sell it for $27,900! This really seems like a great deal for anyone that is looking for a clean car. If you anyone does inquire about this car please do not e-mail me. The dealership is Northwest BMW in Owings Mills, Maryland. Speak to Chris Dunkes 410-902-8700. He is the man to help you with this. I have no affiliation with this shop other than they do a great job servicing my 1998 M3 and this looked like an exceptional deal. Just the fact that it is a BMW certified pre-owned vehicle makes it worth while. For those not aware of the program it also entitles you to a rebate check from BMW of $500 if you are a Car Club member for 1 year or more. Anyway, just thought I would pass it on. Will

#5. Seat belt tensioner question - from Juan Carlos Bruce-Novoa
Top
Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 02:04:57 -0800 (PST) From: Juan Carlos Bruce-Novoa <jbruce@stanford.edu> Subject: Seat belt tensioner question How do you tell on a '95 M3 with manual seats if the seat belt tensioner (pre-pirotechnics) has been activated? I took my M3 into an upholstry shop to have the pasenger seat fixed. They just unbolted the seat, unplugged 2 wires and pulled it out. Should they have disarmed the seat belt tensioner first? Thanks, Juan Bruce '95 M3
