#2. Stock Springs - from DiVincenti, A.J.

Would the DA be overkill in this situation or would it be worth it just to have the rear externally adjustable? Although with stock springs, you may never want to re-adjust. What do you think about this setup form TC Kline? It sounds like the stock spring, but brings the car down a bit, and its pared with the Koni as you said. This setup and the Eibach bars to take a little more roll out might be a good compromise. "StreetLineŽ As good as many OEM suspensions are, this package provides even better control without sacrificing ride quality. This package includes specially valved KONI rebound-adjustable struts/shocks mated to H&R O.E. Sport springs. KONI shocks/struts provide firm ride control without the harshness of some other aftermarket shocks. The H&R O.E. Sport springs lower the car approximately .5-1.0 inches providing a slightly more aggressive stance" aj -------------------- 11 -------------------- Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2001 09:43:24 -0800 From: "Sean Hester" <seanh_race@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Stock Springs >Ok, with that said, if you keep the stock springs but would like to upgrade >your worn out shocks\struts, what would be a good choice of damper that is >tuned for the stock spring other than OEM. Are these good tires? How do they > stack up to the Michelin Pilots? If you want cheap tires, get AVS Intermediates. I paid $102 each for 235/40r17s for my M3... With the H&R coilovers, you have to go silly fast to get the car to slide anyway, having more expensive tires just doesn't make sense... I have race tires for that. :) I've been living with my Sparco Sprint for the past week in my M3/4. I actually like it quite a bit for short drives... makes the car feel like it handles better because you absolutely don't slide around at all. Using the Sparco mounts, I definitely have more headroom, too... I can sit as upright as I want to and not hit my head on the room, and I can still reach the pedals and steering wheel. I just wish that it was a bit more comfortable and had seat heaters built in, then I'd leave it in all the time. :) Anyone know if the Vader seats can be found with a mulberry interior? Or was Mulberry a luxo package-only feature? I'd really like to get a set of them for my car. I'd even consider buying a set of black ones, as long as they have seat heaters. Let me know if you have a set for sale... they'd probably be a real pain to ship, so I'd like to find a set either local to the Bay Area, or in LA at worst... Would prefer power, but that's not a huge concern. -kit 97 m3

Would the DA >be overkill in this situation or would it be worth it just to have the rear >externally adjustable? Although with stock springs, you may never want to >re-adjust. do you have more money or more time? i had the "regular" ones. single adjustible. easy to adjust the front. almost impossible to adjust the rear. (you have to remove the shock from the car to adjust it) if externally adjustible ones and dual adjustible ones would have been readily available i'd probably have bought them. but koni told me (this was a couple years ago) that my only choice was what i got. but... realistically... once you get the "right" settings there's not much reason to adjust anyway. unless you change springs. they're not "adjustible so you can go from soft street ride to firm track ride". they "adjustible so you can match them to any springs". in order to find the "right" setting for the rear it took me 5 trys. that means i removed and installed the rear shocks 4 times over the course of a weekend. (first time i paid someone to install them) i would have gladly paid a couple hundred dollars to not have to do that. but remember... i'm lazy... and hate playing mechanic... and stupid with money... (anyone who races cars is stupid with money ;-) i'd assume most people would put up with a weekend of work to save a couple hundred dollars. at the track, i used to fiddle with the fronts to make more oversteer or understeer to suit my mood. even if i could have adjusted the rears easily at that point, i wouldn't have. in order to change balance, you gotta leave one alone and change the other in relation to it anyway. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

That's why all the E36 race cars out there are at stock height. ;) I keep saying this, but the H&R coilovers simply rule. I love the way my car rides! It's just as comfy as an Acura NSX or a Boxster S with the sport suspension, but feels more confident than both. It's funny how he twists events around. He innocently tries to downplay blocking my e-mails and unsubscribing me from the UUC list when the actual flow of events was: 1) I bought your bent MZ3 shift lever and bent selector because it is simple, achieves the same shortness in throw, doesn't exhibit difficulty in shifting into first, doesn't require grinding away your shift carrier so that you can fully shift into reverse or 5th. 2) I liked it so much that I decided to sell my UUC short shift kit. 3) Upon posting the "For Sale" ad on the lists, I was placed on his personal SPAM list and received this wonderful, very mature message from him each time I posted to the UUC digest: "--- Rob Levinson - UUC Motorwerks wrote: > MESSAGE ERROR! > > You have sent an email which contains information not important to the > recipient. If you wish to contact the recipient via email, please edit your > message and try again. > > In the effort to weed out the uselessness and misinformation already prevalent > in this world, we apologize for this inconvenience. > > Thank you." It didn't really bother me because, like him, it was an ignorable nuisance. 4) Someone asked on the E36M3 list, "The $500 question" when this person didn't know if he should buy the UUC short shifter or the UUC sway bars since both together would exceed his $500 budget. 5) I reply to everyone saying that, IMHO, I think he should get your short shift kit (~$110). I also said that he can get a set of Eibach sways for about $300 if he looked into one of the group purchases that was happening. To top it off and to also come in below his $500 limit, I further suggested that he get a clutch pedal that is modified by you with the delrin bushings (~$75) to eliminate the side to side slop and to improve the smoothness of the clutch pedal stroke. Lookee there...under $500 6) I get unsubscribed from the UUC digest 7) I resubscribe and an hour later I get unsubscribed 8) I ask on the E36M3 digest if anyone else was being unsubscribed from the UUC digest because I was bounced twice. This would have been an opportunity for Mr. Latin "non grata" to address me directly and tell me it was a server problem. Of course, I couldn't ask him directly because I would receive his lovely "I'm God...you're not worth talking to...please edit and resend again" message. 9) I resubscribe again a few hours later and get unsubscribed again 10) A few days later, I resubscribe and get bounced once again. Yes, this must have been the wonderful server flipping out. Isn't it funny how they always have a technical glitch when some bad publicity happens? Just like the time I received my JTD strut brace and wrote a comparison between the two strut braces <http://www.geocities.com/chester_p_wong/strut/comparison.html>. Upon sending the post to the UUC digest and the E36M3 list, I get a bounce from the UUC Monitor. When I inquired into why the post bounced, Rob said that he was filtering for "cuss" words. Funny that I don't remember writing a single curse word in my post. Oh, I know....JTD == "cuss" word. I'm sure that if I changed every instance of JTD to J T D, it would have gone through, but quite frankly, I was tired of his antics and obvious "thou shall not talk badly about UUC products on this list" attitude. That and despite providing information that I would consider very useful, I would get angry responses like, "Shut up, you don't know what you're talking about," "I don't care what you tell me...UUC stuff is good [even though I haven't researched anything and never compared similar competing products]"...and all other ignant stuff. Go figure, huh? ttyl, Chester --- RonStygar@aol.com wrote: > Chester, > Be careful.
