They attach to the inboard rear seatbelt anchor and require no drilling. The Autocontrols have a seatbelt tensioner like the stock harness for street use and an optional cut off switch to lock the belt for track use, a nice feature plus they are DOT approved for street use. I got mine from HMS and highly recommend them for quality and their service. Who has the best deal on Schroths? > Thanks, Tobin > '95 M3 Tobin, The Schroths work very well for Driver School use. They are of course much more effective at holding you in place than stock belts, and can be stowed easily when not in use. I've been using them since 97. I'd recommend HMS Motorsport <http://www.hms-motorsport.com/> as a source. You might possibly find them fractionally cheaper someplace else, but Joe Marko at HMS is very knowledgeable about Schroths, and keeps all the pieces and parts in stock. You'll want to buy the Rallye 4 version. I don't see any reason not to use a harness bar, but one isn't required. Ask HMS. I have a detailed (text only) write-up on Schroth installation in the E36, which I can email you privately if you wish. Neil 96 M3

He bought them a couple of years ago and they have been in storage ever since. These wheels have never been used and have never had rubber mounted on them. If anyone is interested he is willing to let them go for $395 ea + shipping. I won't be making any money on them, but if someone wants to use a credit card I am willing to offer the option through my company. Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 08:42:43 -0500 From: Eric.C.Dotson@travelers.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Stock Springs I'll try the fronts at 1.25 turns until the weekend, then I'll remove the rears and adjust them. The back of the car feels too stiff, it feels like the rear wheels are unloading a bit over bumps. Gotta keep that inside rear wheel planted in the turns. Plus, it's not real comfortable at 3/4 turn. But I'll try firming up the fronts and let everybody know how it is. Question: How many turns do Konis adjust? The literature mentions adjusting up to one full turn from soft, and doesn't say anything about going beyond that. It does say not to run the dampers at maximum adjustment, but where is that? Eric 95 M3 00 Passat Wagon Sean wrote: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- well... if you set the rears to 3/4 and all you want is the understeer/oversteer balance back you can put the fronts at about 1.25 turns. that's the easy way to go. this'll make the car balanced, (the stiffer the fronts, the less understeer you'll get, up to a point (about 3 turns)) but the car will be overall a little stiff. for smooth roads or tracks it shouldn't be a problem, and might even be more to you're liking. for rough roads, it's gonna be a bit harsh, and you might find your rear heels "hopping" over bumps. if i were you, before i removed my rear shocks to adjust them (what a pain) i'd try stiffening the fronts. just to see if you like it. in fact... i never tried 3/4 turn on the rear. formy my 4th attempt i was at 1 turn (too stiff) and next i went down to 1/2. this seemed ok, and i was NOT in the mood to remove them for the 5th time to try 3/4 turn. so... if you like your 3/4 turn setup let me (us) know. it might be the way to go. ;-)

The hp and torque > gain claims sound good but I keep thinking if it works, why > doesn't BMW > do it that way. I've had my '98 "Sharked" for almost 2 years, and I've been very happy with it. Of course, after that much time, my "butt dyno" has gotten used to the change :-), but I remember that there was a very noticeable increase in torque. And in addition, and more important to me, was that the power delivery was much smoother throughout the RPM range, and the "bucking" experienced when letting off the gas was much reduced. These features are very important to me in my 100-mile round-trip commute in stop-n-go traffic. The additional 200RPM is nice for merging into traffic, too :-) As to why BMW didn't do this initially, several reasons, if I remember correctly from JimC's very informative past posts. First is that the tuning *requires* 92 octane gas. The BMW tuning can live with, and was designed to run with, regular (yuck! :-)). Also, BMW tunes the car for the "average" driver. Those of us that have re-programmed our cars (and that are on lists like this) are a small minority of BMW and M3 owners. If he wants, I'm sure Josh from Eurosport could expand (or correct :-)) on that (Hi Josh, good to see you're still around). Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - JimC software & intake, among other things

Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 13:18:35 -0800 From: Roman <roman@arteuro.com> Subject: Sharking Greetings All, This topic probably came up many, many, many times but being a newbie in this group I must have missed some extremely interesting discussions. Sorry but here goes: 1. Whose software would you recommend? 2. Is sharking harmful to the car? 3. Would it be counter productive to shark an M3 that is mostly driven in the city and highway, but whose driver experiences sudden and unexpected need for g-force? 4. Is there a drastic change in fuel consumption? 5. Finally, is there a significant/noticeable change in torque? Thanks all, Roman 96 ///M3 Sheesh, and I promised that I would leave the car stock when I bought it, ahhh well :))))
