#1. Power Loss/High RPM Hesitation. - from Ahmad Lutfeali

Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 21:21:52 -0000 From: "Ahmad Lutfeali" <m3_racer99@hotmail.com> Subject: Power Loss/High RPM Hesitation. I have this problem on the car that is really irritating me. After the car warms up and on full throttle in 3rd, 4th and 5th, (on highway) after 5000 rpms the car hesitates kinda feels like the spark plugs are missing but when we checked, its OK. The hesitation makes it less smooth and I kina weak on power (because the rpms wont climb quickly now). I have an appointment with the dealer for this monday and wanted to know some possible causes I can highlight. In the past it had some troubles with the valves and the VANOS system which was taken care by the warranty (I dont know what the symptoms where because I am the 2nd owner now). I would really appreciate all responses. TIA Ahmad 98 M3/4 _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Plus, it's not real comfortable at 3/4 turn. But >I'll >try firming up the fronts and let everybody know how it is. yeah... if the rears are unloading over bumps they're too stiff for your springs. >Question: How many turns do Konis adjust? The literature mentions >adjusting up >to one full turn from soft, and doesn't say anything about going beyond >that. >It does say not to run the dampers at maximum adjustment, but where is >that? it's a dirty little secret that every shock is different. if i remember my LR would go 4 turns. and the LR would go about 4.5. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

#5. What's going on with my clutch? - from Juan Rico
Top
Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 14:38:12 -0800 From: Juan Rico <juan_rico@captionsinc.com> Subject: What's going on with my clutch? Hi List, On my way to work this morning my clutch, the pedal at least, started doing some weird stuff. It seems like on the first 5 inches of travel the pedal feels loose as hell now-- barely any resistance. Just resting my foot on the pedal now will sink the pedal an inch or two. Once passed that initial stage, the clutch feels tight and fine. This happened all of a sudden. The clutch was perfectly fine until this morning. Does anybody know what's going on? It's rather uncomfortable to drive with the clutch this way. Will I just have to get used to it? Any ideas? Muchas gracias, Juan.

No - actually, your car will thank you :-) > 3. Would it be counter productive to shark an M3 that is mostly > driven in the city and highway, > but whose driver experiences sudden and unexpected need for > g-force? I don't think so (see my previous email) - I feel it improves the day-to-day driveability as well as track performance. > 4. Is there a drastic change in fuel consumption? Nope (well, OK, it may go down, but that's usually due to heavyrightfootitis :-)). > 5. Finally, is there a significant/noticeable change in torque? Again, refer to my earlier email - I noticed a difference. Just don't expect a turbo- or supercharger-like kick in the pants; it's like the stock kick got a bit firmer (thank you sir, may I have another? :-)). > Thanks all, > Roman > 96 ///M3 > > Sheesh, and I promised that I would leave the car stock when > I bought it, > ahhh well :)))) Yeah, sure you would :-) Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - was stock for all of a week :-)

#8. Running of the ///M?'s - from Mount, Mike

Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 15:10:16 -0800 From: "Mount, Mike" <JMMn@pge.com> Subject: Running of the ///M?'s Hey all, anyone interested in an informal group gathering on Superbowl Sunday, say late morning-ish? Where, you say? How about the town of Pozo? Here's a link to Yahoo http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?BFCat=&Pyt=Tmap&newFL=Use+Address+Below&add r=&csz=pozo%2C+ca.&country=us&Get%A0Map=Get+Mapmap Pozo? Where 'n the $%@$%^ is Pozo? Uh, check the map, but if you're too impatient, it's in central California somewhat near the coast a few miles off Hwy 101. Soooo, what I was thinking was an informal gathering, a casual cruise and then perhaps lunch. San Luis Obispo county is well known for its great wines and wineries, so feel welcome to bring the spouse and/or s.o. Cambria, San Simeon and Heast Castle are ~ 1 hour west of Pozo. BTW, Pozo is known for it's annual Scottish games, the Pozo bar, great mountain biking and some curvy roads. Everyone is invited, even you folks back east. Leave the snow tires, but bring sunscreen. FYI, Pozo is ~ 2 hours north of Santa Barbara (or less if the V1 is working and you're in an ///M3), and about the same from the South Bay or the central valley of the Golden State. From what I understand, there will also be a gathering of P-cars in Pozo. Rain or crappy weather (colder than 65 degrees qualifies as crappy weather here on the coast) cancels. E-mail privately if interested. Mike '95 M3 drive it like you just stole it! ps, I'd keep the lights on for you, but we're in a power outage right now.

Cool. Isn't Dirk the young guy who schooled the E36 M3s in the Porsche? At least I can pull for him in the races now ;) Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
