The fit looks like a stock piece. The sound (although it actually comes from the front) makes people think you put on a performance exhaust. You really only hear it sing at or near WOT. As for performance gains, I couldn't tell ya. My butt dyno says the car breathes better and moves faster. Note, I also have Dinan software set for the intake (had it before the intake and upgraded after). I'm not gonna get into a debate on if it's better than brand A or brand B. It's the only intake on my car, and I like it. I'll still preach that the best performance gains are had by improving the nut that holds the wheel. - Chip > Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2001 23:07:02 EST > From: AVUSM3@aol.com > Subject: Dinan CAI.. > > Is anybody currently running a Dinan CAI on their > M3? He'll have TransWheel pick it up and repair it if possible. I've had them repair one of my wheels before and it came back looking better than new. I sent them a set of wheels once and they sent them back, they were beyond repair. So, I trust their work. They WILL refuse wheels that are beyond fixing. However, I still wouldn't use a reapaired wheel on the track, street yes, track never. BTW, did you go to the dinner? You know I'm living in Streamwood now, are you living or working in Schaumburg. What kind of a unit is that? <vbg> >I >sure hope you are on the other side of the cash register when I buy my M5. >"But I paid 70,000 half dollars!" ;-) well... pppbbbhhttttppgbbtht!!!!!!! ok... who's actually tried to adjust those damn things? (the rears for an e36 M3) there's no markings of any sort to count turns, there's no way to see where you are now, and it's darn near impossible to tell if you're even adjusting the damn thing as you turn it... MANY times, when i still counted whole turns, and my wrist was breaking, and the tiny allen wrench thing slipped out of my hands, i'd think. ok... how many turns was i? 1? 1.5? damn! and i'd have to start over. meaning take it all the way back to full soft (the ONLY reference point) and start winding it back up. so... the only way i could reliably do this was to count half turns. why? because... with the T shaped tool i used to adjust the things, i could make an 180 degree turn with one motion of my wrist. so i'd just count that as a unit. let me tell you. when you're sweating, and in pain, and cussing at the things, it's alot easier to count: one... two... three... then it is to count: one half... one... two... no wait... one and one half... one... no wait... two... two and one half... maybe i'm just bad at fractions? >Lowell Seaton >2 half '95 M3's well ha! look at THIS signature. I'm having it > repaired at > the SF BMW Dealership Bodyshop. The best BMW > body-shop I > know of. Here are some points to consider, I have a few high line bodyshop clients, but I am in Southern CA... 1. Make sure they have a frame machine with laser alignment, if they just have the old fashioned, iron "legs," go somewhere else. 2. Make sure they have Ultramate as the estimate system (the why's are too long to go over here), if not, go somewhere else. 3. Make sure the paint is Glasurit. 4. I can't believe they are not totalling the car, if the whole front is gone and the rear clip has to be replaced. 5. There are two frame rails in the back, two 1/4's, trunk lid, suspension, bumper, exhaust/muffler, subframe, diff, the job itself is close to 15 grand for the rear to be able to fix it properly. 5. On the front there are two big frame rails, two 1/4's, bumper, the entire engine assembly. 6. If the damage was that severe on both the front and rear, there was probably some structural damage to the passenger cage. The car is pretty much worthless if that was the case. 6. All this plus the expen$ive Glasurit paint, there is no way the bill is only 24K unless they cut MAJOR CORNERS. If you had said the job would cost between 32K and 35K, then the good as before claim might be some what believable. My advice, total it. Andy, seen too many shitty jobs done by would be clients who couldn't afford my IT rate... 98 M3 black/black __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? #6. 95 M3 vs. E46 330i. Was: 95 M3 for sale w/ mods - from Jay Sala

Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2001 18:11:48 +0800 From: Jay Sala <jsala@mist.com> Subject: 95 M3 vs. E46 330i. Was: 95 M3 for sale w/ mods Hmm, besides gaining 2 extra doors, what led you to replace the M3 coupe with a 330i sedan? What is it like to drive the 2 cars back to back (especially if you can recall what the M3 was like when it was stock)? On paper, the M3 has a bit more power and torque, but not by much. I assume the M3 has a firmer, sportier ride, and the 330i is more refined. Brake rotors on the 330i are M3 size now -- how does braking compare? Of course, if your 330i doesn't have Sport suspension and 17" wheels, there will be no comparison in handling/braking. In reality, what is it like? How big is the difference? Unethical parts sale I would like to let everyone on the list know about a person out there in the BMW community who is a liar and a cheat. Jon Marshall in the Columbus Ohio area. He goes by the email address of jpbikeworld@yahoo.com This guy sold a cheap knockoff lightweight-style rear wing to a friend as if it was the factory original. He's been spotted selling other BMW equipment on bimmer.org and probably other venues as well. Jon Marshall if you read this and have a problem with it, please come on out and see me. I'd be happy to apologize to what's left of you. Do the right thing and give the money back. Jim Powell

I just purchased what turned out to be a cheap knock-off E36 M3 Lightweight wing. Take a look for yourself and see if you think it sounds genuine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=533222515&r=0 (Note that the picture is of a real LTW with a real wing - not what was sold and shipped.) Here are some general tips: -- Don't accept "Yes, it's the real thing" or "It's complete" as an answer to an inquiry email. Get pictures and part numbers of the parts you are buying. -- Use a Postal Money Order for payment. The USPS takes a dim view of fraud. -- Look around the web at what the seller has listed elsewhere and at items already sold. Lots of positive feedback may only mean that previous purchasers don't know what they've purchased or are satisfied with bogus trademark goods. -- Know what you are looking for including part numbers and exact descriptions. We'd all like to think that ebay is one big happy community. It isn't. For BMW parts, ask for help here if you aren't sure. Many here have access to exact part numbers. Thanks...ned. Opened up the hood this morning, and now I can't get it to stay shut. It goes down, but won't stay all the way down shut & locked like normal. I jiggled the hood release lever, but that didn't help. Any idea on how the hood lock work? I afraid of driving the car at high speed since the hood may fly open. Any help is appreciated. thanks, anthony
