Dave, I previously posted about breaking a rear swaybar tab, and cracking both front mounting brackets, on my 96 M3 with RD bars. We also found cracking fronts 2 other cars at Mid Ohio last fall. I think the reason for the rears breaking is simple enough: the tabs are flimsy anyhow (supposedly reinforced on 98 and later cars), and the additional load of larger bars and stiff bushing overwhelms them. The fix is to weld on a reinforcement. I believe that the situation with the fronts may be somewhat different. These U-brackets are actually quite stout. However because the urethane bushings are also very stiff, the flat tabs on the brackets no longer sit flush on their mounting plane without being forced. As you tighten the nuts, the bushing barely compresses, and so the flat tabs have to flex. This puts them under permanent stress, and they eventually start to crack along the right angle bend. Mine took 2 years (after installing the RD bars) to crack, on a car which sees about 20 track days per year. Fortunately these brackets are cheap and easy to replace. I now have a couple of spares for my track box... As an experiment I've sandwiched a washer in between the bracket and mounting plane to take some stress off the tab. An alternative would be to use a rubber bushing instead of the RD urethane. Neil 96 M3

I was wondering what the real world users have experienced with the camber change from one washer vs two washers If I am at -1.0 on the driver side and -0.3 on the passenger side right now, should I use one washer on the passenger side or two to balance and what would each washer add? My washers were about 50mils (1.3mm) thick. I got .5 degrees per washer. Your best bet is to dd the washers while the car is on the alignment rack. You may need some thinner washers to balance it out. I'd shoot for around 1.2-1.5 degrees on a street car. 2-2.5 for an autoX/DE/Street car. Don't use these for a track only car. Of course you want the same on both sides. -Matt --- Daniel <m3_driver@yahoo.com> wrote: > Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2001 06:41:10 -0800 (PST) > From: Daniel <m3_driver@yahoo.com> > Subject: Korman Front Camber Shims Question > > I just received them yesterday...Looks like a very > simple but effective 'fix'. > I was wondering what the real world users have > experienced with the camber change from one washer > vs > two washers > If I am at -1.0 on the driver side and -0.3 on the > passenger side right now, should I use one washer on > the passenger side or two to balance and what would > each washer add? > > Thanks > > Dan > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Yahoo! Pretty soon I'll be able to afford a second one for the track. Plus people can go nuts modifying them. It's a lot easier to justify dropping a turbo on a 18-20K car than a 30k one. Of course this also means that we're going to see a lot of riced out M3's soon.. -Matt --- Daniel <m3_driver@yahoo.com> wrote: > Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2001 06:37:08 -0800 (PST) > From: Daniel <m3_driver@yahoo.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Price for 95 M3 > > The trade-in value of the '95M3 (good condition) > cars > here in Houston is $17000-$19000 > Its pretty bad...BMW made too many of them... > > Dan > > > --- Jim Wilcox <JimShadow1@home.com> wrote: > > Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2001 08:13:06 -0600 > > From: "Jim Wilcox" <JimShadow1@home.com> > > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Price for 95 M3 > > > > Colin, > > > > I have almost the exact car. #9. A Cautionary Tale - Followup - from Ned Coonen

Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2001 10:53:29 -0600 From: "Ned Coonen" <ncoonen@hotmail.com> Subject: A Cautionary Tale - Followup About a week ago, I posted a message preaching caution when buying BMW parts (or anything actually) via eBay. I included this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=533222515&r=0&t=0 This is the auction I "won" that netted me a cheap replica E36 wing. The broken picture link used to indicate the GT Rear Wing from Mitch Herman's Motorsport Imports website http://www.motorsportimports.com/ I'm guessing Honesty.com, the image hosting service, decided to pull it. Motorsport Imports sells the real deal as pictured. Jon-Paul Marshall does not. Since I posted that message, I've received many private messages from others who have dealt with this seller. While he has plenty of positive feedback on eBay, he left a trail of doubt on the Roadfly.com (aka Bimmers.org) message boards. At one time he claimed to have two brand new E39 M5 engines available for sale. There was enough doubt that the eBay auction disappeared! It wasn't cancelled as cancelled auctions remain on the database. This auction disappeared after several people complained to eBay that it was fraudulent. J.P. Marshall was(is?) a principal in Composite Technologies Group, CTG. Prior to 01/19, the CTG website at http://bmwmpower.8m.com/index.html included details of the founders, including Marshall. It also included a Products page with a selection of aftermarket products created by Ron Stygar, Jim Mihal of JT Designs, and others. Now, the site has been trimmed to almost nothing. The products are gone. All names are gone. Curious, no? Marshall called me a week ago today asking for me to give him time to get the money together to buy the fake wing back from me. He said he had discovered that I wasn't "just another a$$hole on eBay". That was due in part to the pressure brought to bear by many of you. Thanks! I agreed not speak publicly about the deal for a week. He was to arrange for the funds. Shame on me for trusting him again. It seems that he has used that week to roll up the sidewalks and disappear. He made a lame effort to change his name on eBay from JPBIKEWORLD TO BIMMERBOYY and discovered that all feedback and fraud complaints remain linked. Bottomline, I hope none of you get taken as I was.
