#1. M3 front brake ducting help needed - from Steve
Top
Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 09:06:08 -0800 From: Steve <sgrigory@pacbell.net> Subject: M3 front brake ducting help needed I'm in the process of replacing my front wheel bearings (thanks again to those who responded to my previous posting!) and I want to replace the stock front rotor backing plates with a set of plates that are ducted. I have the new bearing assemblies coming in from SteveD. I've chatted briefly with TMS and BMP about their backing plates. They seem very similar, TMS is $250 and BMP is $300. Also, BimmerWorld has a very nice duct hose and flange kit for running the hose from their backing plate to the stock brake duct opening in the front of the airdamn which I'd like to use. I don't plan to use the foglight openings. So if anyone on here has done this to their M3 I'd love to hear from you. The two backing plates seem very similar. BMP has a 2 1/4-inch opening, I don't yet know the size of the TMS backing plate or the size of the hose on the BimmerWorld kit. The car is a daily driver with occasional open track events- including brake-eating Laguna Seca. My basic questions are: - which backing plate did you use? - fairly simple to install? - how did you run the hose to the front of the car, both inside the wheel well and in the area behind the airdam (this is why I like the Bimmerworld kit- it has a nice flange which allows you to disconnect the wheel well hose for the street and it also runs the hose in through a different part of the wheel well which I'm assuming gives the hose a more direct of out-of-the-way route to the backing plate) Plus any other experience/advice you may have. I have Laguna Seca coming up in a few weeks, so I'm a bit strapped for time! Thanks, steve 95 M3

Why is it that the Digest Commands (see below) get repeated 47 times in each digest? Please, please do us all a favor (and follow the rules, BTW) of trimming away any non-essential quotes before you hit send. Also, (pretty please) when you want to add your $.02, please don't quote what EVERY single other two-center has replied. We know what they said. We saw it the first time like you did. Just snippet in a line or two to make it relavent and remind us what it is you're writing about. Thanks everybody, I'll get off my soapbox now... -Paul > Digest Commands > UNSUBSCRIBE DIGEST - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the digest. <snip>

#3.AA Gen I Exhaust - from Chester Wong

Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 09:27:51 -0800 (PST) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: <FS> AA Gen I Exhaust Hi guys. I thinking about selling my AA exhaust. As some may remember, my gen I tips started cracking a while ago. I sent the exhaust to a stainless steel worker to weld on the new ones. Well, I don't think he was too much of a car guy so the left tip is 1/16 - 1/8" shorter and the left tip is also angled upwards a little. To many, I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem, but for me, well...I'm pretty picky. Otherwise, the exhaust is in great shape and the weld for the new tips is very good....not some hack muffler shop job. The exhaust is located in Brooklyn, NY (though shipping can be arranged, but I'd rather not since it's pretty bulky). I paid $585 for the gen I exhaust and paid $130 to have the repair work done. The new tips are gen III style...they're awesome. Make me an offer. Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! The trick thing about the Bimmerworld backing plates is that they DON'T need to be pressed on with the bearings. They bolt to the spots that the stock backing plate does. > - fairly simple to install? > The backing plates are painless. The rest of the kit is kind of a pain, since the instructions are practically non-existent. But since you're not using the foglight ducts you won't have that problem. I DO highly recommend you get the flanges that allow the hoses to be detached from the backing plate when not in use. The other thing I recommend is that you buy some 3" silicon high-temp hose (the orange stuff) to replace the stuff that Bimmerworld sends. The Bimmerworld hose is too stiff and won't last very long. > - Mark > '95 M3 > '97 528i 5-spd > '88 M3, Hennarot, Bimmerworld Brake Ducting > ---- > Mark Dadgar - Product Manager, Visor > (650) 230-5037 voice - (650) 230-2100 fax > mdadgar@handspring.com - Handspring, Inc > Check out Visor at www.handspring.com!

#5. rubber sway bar bushings for RD sway bars - from nabli@attglobal.net
Top
Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 13:17:55 -0500 From: nabli@attglobal.net Subject: rubber sway bar bushings for RD sway bars Hi Guys: I have had several inquiries asking whether or not there were any rubber bushings available for the RD/Racing Dynamics bars (i.e., the 27/22 approx. mm bars) Believe it or not BMW does have a 27 mm front rubber bushing from the 850 CSI which is # 31 35 2 227 365 and will fit our metal bracket. They actually use the same bracket for many many cars. Unfortunately I can't find any 22 mm rear rubber bushings. The closest is the OEM rubber bushing for the 96+ M3 which is 20mm. Get a set of those and dremel them out or use sand paper on a drill and I'm sure it can be done. Since it's only 2 mm for you I don't think it would be a big deal. Cheers, Jim E.

Date: Tue, 30 Jan 2001 00:31:13 From: "Simon Birkoff" <humaduma@hotmail.com> Subject: P-cars prepare to be destroyed! I'm not trying to be anti BMW, but asking the ACO to change a rule to make it easier is being a cry baby!!! Everyone wants to win!!! It was just the first year for the E46 M3. I know that this happens with every kind of racing but this is pretty bad when they could have developed a new 6(or something else) instead of going with the V8. You can tell where all of the Money at BMW is going.(Formula 1) I want to see BMW win but not when Porsche will have a real reason to be even bigger cry babies. Maybe I don't know the big story, so please tell me if there is another reason for the change. PS. Does anyone have the rules for the LMGT class? If so, I would like to read them. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
