#1. [E36M3] Street brake pads - from Jeff Thompson
Top
Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 11:51:21 -0500 From: Jeff Thompson <jthompson@telco.com> Subject: [E36M3] Street brake pads People, My 95 M3 will be in need of brake pads in the near future, and I was wondering what the consensus was on the best street pads. This car isn't tracked, and I don't have any plans to do so in the near future. So I am primarily concerned with cold street performance and semi-agressive street driving. I was thinking about EBC Green pads but I really have no experience with anything other than Repco MetalMasters (or whoever produces them now), and that is only on other cars. I also have no idea what pads are on the car (whatever was there when I bought it), but they are terrible when wet and worse when they are cold and wet. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, -jeff

#4. Ice9 for sale - from John Van Houten
Top
Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 11:05:51 -0600 From: "John Van Houten" <jvanhouten@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Ice9 for sale I posted this some time ago, had few nibbles, but nothing firm. I wanted to post this again before I pursue installation of a new motor in the car. Ice9, for those of you who don't know, is a highly modified Avus Blue 95 M3 formerly owned by Carl Buckland. It has won a Solo2 National Event and a Solo1 National Championship, as well as been featured in articles in European Car and Grassroots Motorsports. Unfortunately, at Windy City School at Grattan in September, the superb motor let go... Details on the car and the motor can be seen (lots of pics) at www.jvanhouten.com/bmw It has fine street manners combined with excellent track performance. This car would be a Club Racing IPrepared contender with only the completion of the cage and a diet (and fixing the engine, of course). Truly a fine automobile without compromise. I am currently offering the car for sale at $25K/obo as is, but with stock wheels. I am currently looking to sell the car to finance and ITS effort in an E36 325 for next year. The car is currently in Chicago and has not seen any salt-laden Midwest winters. Let me know if you have any questions. John

#5. Australia - from Jzy308@aol.com
Top
Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 12:09:58 EST From: Jzy308@aol.com Subject: Australia I am sure the car involved was a BMW (OBMCC): THE VALUE OF UNDIES Here's your weekly safety brief. Be careful what you wear (or don't wear), when working under your vehicle...especially in public. From the Sydney Morning Herald Australia comes this story of a central west couple who drove their car to K-Mart only to have their car break down in the parking lot. The man told his wife to carry on with the shopping while he fixed the car there in the lot. The wife returned later to see a small group of people near the car. On closer inspection she saw a pair of male legs protruding from under the chassis. Although the man was in shorts, his lack of underpants turned private parts into glaringly public ones. Unable to stand the embarrassment she dutifully stepped forward, quickly put her hand UP his shorts and tucked everything back into place. On regaining her feet she looked across the hood and found herself staring at her husband who was standing idly by. The mechanic, however, had to have three stitches in his head.

#7. Day Running Lights - from Mark Zenz

Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 09:47:35 -0800 (PST) From: Mark Zenz <mtzenz@excite.com> Subject: Day Running Lights Today I installed the Canadian Day Running Lights Modul specified in www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/electrical/e36_daytime_running_lights.html but it did not work on my 1997 M3. I followed the directions, have the right module, started the car and no day running lights. Ron's writeup was originally for a Z3. Has any E36 M3 owner tried this? Subject: Re: [E36M3] EBC Red Stuff >>much snipping...> of course... if you go the track... real track pads are what you want. So, let's stir this pot up once again, eh? Okay, which track pads? R4's? PF90's? Hawks? I'm gonna take the plunge and get a set of dedicated rotors and pads before the next school. Probably settle for the knock-off Brembos that sell for ~$60 (unless you have an opinion to share) and so that leaves pads..... The details.... stock '95 M3 with stock brakes and ATE Super Blue fluid. I drive in the 'B' group with the BMWCCA. It would be nice to not have to bleed the brakes after the Saturday sessions as seems to be the case these days. I'd rather be hoisting a brew with my bimwad buddies or sleeping in before the Sunday session. The downward plunge continues... Mike '95 M3 drive it like you just stole it

I use the R4's now because they work pretty well on the street (decent cold stopping, no rattles) when I'm too lazy to swap pads (often). Rob '97
