I've checked the website, but I can't seem to find anything. #4. Coil overs for sale - from Scott Chan

Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2001 13:09:53 -0800 From: Scott Chan <scottch@juniper.net> Subject: Coil overs for sale I have a set of Bilstein coil-overs for sale. The fronts have threaded spring perches, the rears are conventional shocks with non-adjustable spring height. Rear springs are 325 lb/in, fronts are unknown. This set has around 2000 miles on it. I think this is called a "Group N" kit; BMP sells a similar kit for $1995. I'll sell it for $1100 plus shipping from Mountain View, CA. -- Scott (650)965-2182

#6. P-car machanic needed - from Michael Bird

Date: Tue, 6 Feb 2001 16:16:18 -0500 From: "Michael Bird" <MJBird@bellsouth.net> Subject: P-car machanic needed Yeah, I know Suzy is going to blast me for this, but this list has more enthusiasts on it than any other list I'm on, so I'm coming here for help... I'm looking to buy a 911 located in Columbus Ohio, and I would like to have a good independent Porsche specialist check it out first (since I'm in NC). Can anyone here that lives in the area please email me directly (MJBird@bellsouth.net) if they know of a good shop? Thanks. Even though the car is black, I will have it painted orange so that the M3's can slalom around it as they pass me on the track... Michael

#8. More Drain Plug Issues (was Re: [E36M3] '97 m3 drain plug) - from peter@guagenti.com

Date: Tue, 6 Feb 2001 13:34:05 US/Pacific From: peter@guagenti.com Subject: More Drain Plug Issues (was Re: [E36M3] '97 m3 drain plug) > As you may recall, I stripped the drain plug in my 97 M3 last summer. If > any of you "white collar" mechanics want to know what not to do, I have > documented my experience... While checking out my car for the March school at Sears Point, Bill Arnold discovered that I had a cracked drain plug in my '95. Doh! Seems that the drain plugs that BMW supplies are hollow. Overtorque them even a little bit, and they tend to break off with part of the bolt still contained. Thankfully, a simple extraction with a reverse drill bit pulled the offending bit, but it could have been WAY worse (can you say new drain pan? -- as Bill put it "I guess my car karma is good this week") Bill replaced the cracked bolt with a solid drain plug, and was able to save almost all of the fresh Mobil 1 in the engine. The trick for you all? Make sure you've got a solid drain plug and watch that torque spec! -peterg P.S. Note to self: never get oil changed at Speedee Lube again. ;-) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

#9. Gratitude to FLA BMW CCA at the 24Hrs @ Daytona - from GSM M3

Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2001 21:36:24 -0000 From: "GSM M3" <carpediemm3@hotmail.com> Subject: Gratitude to FLA BMW CCA at the 24Hrs @ Daytona To whom it may concern: Many thanks, to the Florida BMW CCA (chapter unknown), and to Yokohama, for their hospitality at the 24 Hrs at Daytona, this past weekend. The corral was twice the size of last years, and provided egress at the rear fence (which came in handy during beer runs from the road course). The local chapter again provided hot food and cold beverages for lunch on Saturday, and as I understood it, Yokohama, footed the bill for the corral, and a box of assorted size Yoko/M3 T-shirts. Damn fine people! See you next year. Sincerely, Greg ‘99M3 (FWIW: The brother is one of the primes at GoGoRacing.com. Though mostly Ferrari & Porsche club racing content, plenty of Daytona 24 images and a few good reads, can be had there. Sorry for the non-Bimmer content, although you might see several nice shots of the PTG V8 M3 that ran this year. What a ride!) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

If you look at the plug, it's thinnest right at the bolt head. I think BMW builds them this way so that when you overtorque them, they break instead of stripping the oil pan threads. Backing the headless bolt out with an EZ-Out is very easy. My mistake was not having a spare bold on-hand on a Sunday. :) Anyway, as a result, I won't use a solid bolt. > P.S.
