Dave, I've done this job, and no that's's not true at all. To access the bushings just jack up the rear of the car on both sides, support on jack stands, remove the wheels, then unbolt the shocks at their bottom to allow the suspension to droop fully. Now spray a little paint around where the trailing arms mount to the body. (This is so you can more or less realign when you put it back together.) Detach the brake line union/bracket from the trailing arm. Remove the three bolts securing the trailing arm pivot. The front of the trailing arm can now be dropped for access. All the rest of the work is done on the car. There's a web site with instructions, but I can't find it. However I do have a text version of the instructions which I got them from Bob Tunell. I'm sending them to you attached to a separate message. Neil 96 M3 - Replaced trailing arm bushings myself last year

#6. install of tc kline bushings - from kitwetzler@mindspring.com
Top
Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 11:30:49 -0500 From: "kitwetzler@mindspring.com" <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: install of tc kline bushings It's really not difficult at all. Jack and securely support the car. remove wheel. Drop the 3 bolts holding the leading end of the trailing arm to the body. Impact wrench helps here. Pull the leading edge down. (remember, the car is SECURELY supported here. Jack Stand, etc.) Remove nut that goes through the bushing that holds the bracket to the bushing. Drill holes in rubber of the bushing, stick in a sawZall and cut around the center. This should cause the heavy metal sleeve in the center to come out. Then, cut towards the outside, just through the external metal shell in two places, being VERY careful not to cut into the control arm. this will cause the old bushing to basically fall out. Install the TC Kline bushings with loctite and replace everything. email me if you have any other questions... -kit -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mail2Web - Check your email from the web at http://www.mail2web.com/ .
