KBB is smoking crack in terms of their appraised values for the market value of vehicles. I hardly ever see cars actually obtaining what the book states, except of course the trade-in values they post. I've had my '95 M3 up for sale now for about 3 months. I knew going into it that it would be tough being winter tiem and all, but I had no idea!!! When I first posted my car, KBB et all had the car retailed out at $27,500, now the car is going for between 23,900 and 24,500 depending where you look.(VERY SAD!!!) KBB is generous at 25,000 right now. My car is incredibly clean, has a full documented history, 4k left on the CPO Warranty , with some extras (wheels/tires, etc...) and still there was very little interest. Luckily for me I just (2hrs ago) sold it to a guy locally for a little less than I really wanted to, but not too terrible........... Hang in there, I'm betting in another 30-45 days, the M3 market will come back a little bit. Jim, Cheer up! KBB values are bullshit. If you take them to any retail outlet and ask them to pay KBB value for your car you will get your ass laughed at. Few used car dealers have the balls to ask KBB prices. Nonetheless, many sellers still like to think their car is worth the KBB values and get bummed out when reality hits. Stick with NADA if you want to find out the true value of the car. Edmunds is buyers friend. Their values are lower then either KBB's or NADA's. I always print out the Edmunds pages when I go car shopping ;-) alex f P.S.: Oh yeah, then there are the Roundle values that make KBB look conservative ;-)

I have a new M3 on the way (#2 on the wait list) and my dealer doesn't even want my '97 M3 in trade. And I have had no luck trying to sell it. The car is perfect with only 18,000 miles, no track time, with a beautiful set of BBS wheels and Dinan exhaust. If I don't sell it, or sell it too cheap, I won't be able to afford the new one. It just doesn't make sense to give my '97 away, because it's still a great car, so I will probably end up keeping it. Maybe when the E46 M3 gets here (sometime this spring) we'll have another raffle :-) Suzy Mark Radelow wrote > I fully agree that removing the mods is the best choice. Hey Jim, that Porch (and the matching rocking chairs) of yours should be arriving shortly, right??? I'll take Katarina off your hands for $5K the day it arrives!!! I know where she's been (more or less). Save yourself the inconvenience of putting in that front part of the cage; I'll take care of that myself seeing as ProParts is in my back yard... ;-) Dave -----Original Message----- Date: Fri, 09 Feb 2001 14:34:29 -0800 From: Jim Powell <jsp98m3@apexcone.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] The M3 Market in General, My rants and questions. Well its much better to get fooked by being stuck with the car all together? If the car won't sell..... You have to make a decision. Personally, if I couldn't sell a modified car, I'd make it an unmodified car. For instance. I had to sit and think about it when I decided to put the turbo on. Would anyone else want it. N O W A Y. I knew that I was shrinking my resell market by about 90%. Then I welded a rollbar in. There goes another 90% of my remaining market. In the next 30 days I'm going to pitch the stock seats out and weld in the front part of the cage, cutting holes in the dash in the process. Wanna guess how many people will want to buy my car then? I can count them on one hand. Now when I'm sick of the car, I'm not going to cry because the car has a retail value of about $5K. I'm a smart guy. I went to college. I even manage to feed myself without nursing assistance. Bottom line..... You run your car on the track, you modify it, you put an air freshner in it; you have decreased your market. You should either take your modifications out or get a clue. Anyone else NOT take Life 101? Jim
