#2. [uuc] Cleaning ITG Air Filter? - from Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com

Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 11:49:07 -0500 From: Colin_S_Whelan@rrfc.raytheon.com Subject: [uuc] Cleaning ITG Air Filter? I was wondering if anyone new the procedure for cleaning the ITG foam filter once it's dirty. I'd imagine you have to buy a kit, since it's coated with this viscous sticky stuff, so the K&N cleaning kit w/oil probably won't work. Any references to a cleaning kit out there? By the way, this is a drop in panel-filter for my '98 M3. Thanks, Colin '98 M3/2 (JC, X-braced) '80 Turbo Trans Am (15lbs boost...)

#4. [E36M3] Warranty on parts that fall off? - from Margaret Cheng

Date: 12 Feb 2001 10:17:49 -0800 From: Margaret Cheng <Margaret.Cheng@kp.org> Subject: [E36M3] Warranty on parts that fall off? I've been told that BMW's warranty does not cover pieces which fall off the car, including the underpanel trim piece (which has never been on the car since I've had it--bought second hand), and the hockey puck piece for jacking up the car. Is this the experience that everyone else is having? Thanks Margaret

Or worse, your trailer alone is worth more than the race car. -- Scott "And speaking of car values, whatever am I going to do next year when my 'disposable track car' is worth more than the car it's supposed to be protecting?? #8. More tire for less weight - from David Hogg
Top
Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 18:16:54 -0800 From: "David Hogg" <springwood@blazenet.net> Subject: More tire for less weight In case anybody's interested, I just weighed a stock 7.5" M3 10-spoke wheel with 225/45-17 Kumho V700 Victoriracer mounted, and an 8.5" Fikse Mach V with 245/40-17 Hoosier DOT road racing tire mounted. Both tires are balanced; Hoosier is new and Kumho slightly used (2 track days). Neither wheel has center caps. 225/45 setup = 46.5 lbs 245/40 setup = 39.5 lbs Granted the wider setup is $$$$ more, but I never expected a seven pound difference per corner with less wheel, and less tire on the road! Just for your amusement and cocktail chatter. Dave Hogg

Just for >your amusement and cocktail chatter. i'm not sure if you were being metaphorical or not, but since i'm in a "devil's advocate" mood today, i'll point out something. the "amount of tire on the road" is NOT a function of the size/width of the tires. the size of the contact patches is mostly a function of the weight of the car, and has a little to do with air pressures. so, no matter that you think, or have heard, wider tires do NOT give you "more rubber" on the road. wider tires make for a short/wide contact patch as opposed to a long/thin one (which is good for traction) but wider tires do NOT make for larger contact patches. in this case... all other things being equal, the bigger tire setup is actually gonna result in a little LESS rubber on the road. why? becuase it's lighter!!! and a lighter car has a smaller contact patch!!! ;-) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

#10. FS: BBS RC Motorsport Edition - from Tommymats@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 20:46:55 EST From: Tommymats@aol.com Subject: FS: BBS RC Motorsport Edition BBS RC (Motorsport Edition) which means that they have a very light champagne hue to them. They are not the polished or the silver ones. I have not seen anyone with these before. Two wheels have curb rashes but are on the very outer edge. They can't be seen until you move closer to the wheel. I have pics showing them. The front tires are P-Zeros also in size 235/35/18. I can't really tell you how much tread is left on them so I took pics of them. I really don't know how people "estimate" anyway. The rears are new 235/40/18. The size of the wheels are 18x8.5 and offset 38. Will fit all e36, e46, and e30 with spacers. Asking $1800. Located in San Mateo or Sacramento CA.
