#3. MAX SPEED indicator (was Work in Progress) - from Robert Jackowitz

Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2001 11:02:42 -0500 From: Robert Jackowitz <RJackowitz@HARVPART.COM> Subject: MAX SPEED indicator (was Work in Progress) Ron, Are you saying that, hypothetically, you hit the 7,000 rev limited in top gear? You should be able to calculate it algebraically. For example, if your car does 82 mph and 3,500 rpm, then it should do 164 at 7,000 rpm. Of course, that doesn't take into account the typical speedo errors, but you get the idea. Rob

It's the FULL course.....The Tarheel Chapter puts on a great event and all students receive plenty of track time, class-room instruction, and opportunities to ride with their (or other) instructors. I'll be there (red E36M3 with Fikses and a roll bar) if you want to say G'day. There is a *really* active community of trackheads in the Triangle area. Coco Strayer, local track junky goddess and webmistress, has some articles that may be of interest to you (http://www.trackschedule.com/articles.html). Also, if you have a *really* fast internet connection, you could check out a hot lap (more like a warm lap) of the VIR full course on my M3 home page. It's a BIG file (26MB) so don't try this with a modem..... See you there..... Cheers, Peter Reinhart - http://www.neuro.duke.edu/phr/m3.html NCC/Tarheel Chapters BMWCCA, NASA, PCA (E36 M3/4)

You could >cut it, but it would look pretty fugly IMHO as it would leave a gaping >hole. part of my experiments with trying to match brightness, had me using neutral density (light grey, almost clear) filter material in order to change the brightness in a "non electric" way. i had cut little tiny pieces of material and stuffed it behind the red filter, but in front of those clear plastic "concentrators" they put between the leds and the front panel. at that point, i could have removed slices of the red filter, and still had a plastic "outer shell" that would keep it from looking like a hole. it wouldn't be as pretty as the stock unit. but it would be much less ugly then a hole. and, in the dark, it would look perfect. ;-) P.S. you could use different grades (or more slices) of the neutral density plastic to adjust brightness between the different LEDs. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

It's a bit tricky to do cleanly, but I now have green >X-band and yellow K-band. Thanks for kick starting my brain, Sean. just as i sent my last e-mail (about neutral density filters) i was thinking about this, instead of removing the red filter completly. glad it worked for you. hmmmm... now i'm left to ponder. do i want red and yellow for bands? on one hand, right now, every light in my car is red. on the other hand, different colors are better for noticing the detector. sometimes being anal is difficult. ;-P >BTW the >way to disassemble the remote display is to carefully pry off the >faceplate. >There are six small latches, three each top and bottom. hmmm... i always removed the two torx screws. this made it come apart easy, but a pain to out back together. next time, i'll have to try this method. ;-) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
