#1. Suspension Decisions - from Bora Akyol
Top
Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 19:42:57 -0800 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@akyol.org> Subject: Suspension Decisions I am thinking of going with a complete custom suspension from Ground Control. Jay suggested 136 lb springs in the front, I am thinking I need something stiffer. The rears are 426 lb springs. (Eibach two rate) Front struts will be Koni double adjustables and the rears are Koni SAs. The price is right, so I am looking for any input at this point. Bora

#2. Engine Over-Rev woes... - from eugene han

Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 03:29:20 -0600 From: "eugene han" <gene501@hotmail.com> Subject: Engine Over-Rev woes... Missed a shift today and did the 'hold the odomenter reset button down for ten seconds & then turn the key to position 2' test today. It shows that my max rpms hit 7504. I know the m3 engine is good, but I've read many a discussion on how it doesn't handle over revs very well. It would make my day if someone else has inadvertantly revved their engine to this degree & have had no ill effects to show for it. Praying for it to be OK in Dallas, Eugene Han '97 M3/2 Alpine White.

#3. Ignition Lock Installation - from Ron Katona

Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 09:04:08 -0500 From: Ron Katona <rkatona@bellatlantic.net> Subject: Ignition Lock Installation Anyone have any tips or tricks on the subject? I purchased a new lock cylinder as my original one started to spin freely with increasing frequency on startup. There's a small tab in the lock meant as an anti theft feature that wears down and causes this symptom. Any advice appreciated. -- Ron Katona

Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 07:55:00 -0700 From: stu burness <burness@unm.edu> Subject: RE: Squeaking Steering I believe the culprit is called a slip ring (if memory serves me). There were a number of threads on this several years ago. My 98 M3 had this problem. First they replaced the entire SW (about $750 for the stiched leather M3 SW). The problem reappeared. The slip ring was replaced twice more before the problem was finally fixed. First time required several days as there are apparently different slip rings (or they ordered the wrong one). All this was (fortunately) done under warranty. So if you're still under warranty, see the dealer. If not, I guess see Bentley. Hope this helps Stu Burness ABQ,NM 98 540i/sport nee 98 M3/4

Get the car towed to a good shop that is experienced with the E36 M3 engine, and have them check it out. They'll need to pull the head off and look inside. Very likely you've got some damage, and if so, driving the car is a recipe for disaster. - Rich

I had to remove mine altogether when converting to track use, and there were no surprises -- just follow a manual on how to use a paper clip to get it out with the key in it. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E.
