Date: Sun, 18 Feb 2001 07:54:39 -0500 From: "Scott King" <vw8vgti@hotmail.com> Subject: Carbon Fiber Splitter Has anyone seen or purchased the "Carbon Fiber DTM front spoiler lip extension" from BMP? It looks to be a replica of the front spoiler/splitter from the 95 LTW. I do not believe it is positionable but it looks to be a cost effective cosmetic alternative for the $1000+ the LTW version goes for. Any experiences? They do have a fiberglass version for $100 cheaper also. Scott 97 M3 83 GTI P.S. Anyone have a used LTW splitter for sale? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

I found the complete procedure on Richard Nott's BMW database page: Instrument test E36 It does not appear to tell you the max revs. I did the test on both my M3 and Z3. The Z3 has OBD II, and I accessed the 6-display initial test and the 15 stage "unlocked cluster" test (although most of the 15 stages had no information stored). On the M3, with OBD I, only the first 6-stage test seems to exist. Bummer. I zinged the Z3 once, over a year ago, with no apparent ill-effects (caught it VERY quickly, thank goodness), but was curious what I'd actually hit. FWIW, 7504 is the "K number" (whatever that is). I had the same value in the Z3. For the M3 it was 7583. I have 6-points in the car now, but really enjoyed the Rallye 3s while I had them. >2) assuming I keep the ralleye 3 solution, should the tail straps be >mounted to >the rear outboard seat belt mount or the rear inboard seat belt mount? Once you lift the rear seat and backrest you'll see there is only one obvious bolt, almost in a direct line behind the head rest of the front seat, to mount the Schroths. >3) The instructions for installing the front belts reference the seat >"pre-tensioner". Since I have motorized seats do I have a pre-tensioner. You have a pyrotechnic pretensioner. I worked CAREFULLY around this, but did not disconnect. >4) Do I need to remove the front seats to install the new harnesses? Has >anyone >installed these on motorized seats without removing the seats? Depends on your definition. I removed all of the mounting bolts and raised the seats straight up using 2 small toolboxes to balance the seat. Wrap a blanket around the bottom mounting rail of the seat so you don't scratch some of the plastic trim. This allowed me access to all mounting points. >Due to the nature and purpose of these harnesses I really want to do this >right >(or why bother) so any insights are greatly appreciated. The key to a successful install is to get the bend in the front mounting brackets just right. Bend them more than once and you weaken the metal. Get the bend wrong and they won't fit together with the stock brackets. I cut out a piece of cardboard and used it to get *exactly* the desired shape of the Schroth bracket. I then used a marker pen to transfer the bend lines onto the Schroth bracket. Got it right first time....... Also make sure you get the sidedness of the belts right. The difference is subtle, but the correct functioning of the belts (allowing the movement of the two occupants away from each other in the event of a collision) relies on this. At one time Peter Stickney had a great writeup on the web. Doesn't seem to be there anymore. Anyone know if it's still on the web somewhere? Good luck. Jay suggested 136 lb springs in the front, I am thinking I need something stiffer. The rears are 426 lb springs. (Eibach two rate) Front struts will be Koni double adjustables and the rears are Koni SAs. The price is right, so I am looking for any input at this point. #6. End of an Era - from MDadgar@handspring.com

Date: Sun, 18 Feb 2001 13:15:24 -0800 From: MDadgar@handspring.com Subject: End of an Era So my '95 M3 is gone. Sold to my brother-in-law on Friday. He's a happy, happy camper. I had the car a couple of weeks past 5 years. Bought it new with 9 miles on it. Some thoughts on E36 M3 ownership: 1) What an AMAZING car, right out of the box. We're all interested in mods and upgrades, but the car is so capable in stock form that maybe we should just think about improving the drivers for a while. 2) The BMW Dealership experience in the SF Bay Area could not suck more. Don't believe me? Come and try it. Unfortunatately, I still have 2 more BMW's, so I'm not done with those losers yet. 3) This car is the one that turned me into a track junkie. If you've not tried a BMW CCA track school yet, what are you waiting for?!! It's doesn't get any more fun than this! 4) M-car drivers are the best car people on the planet. Always ready to help, be it with tools, parts or advice. 5) M3's are pretty reliable for the most part. If you ignore little things like seatbelt sensors and O2 sensors and stuff. Or my under-warranty longblock swap, but we won't talk about that. :) The E36 M3 List is a fanastic resource. THANKS to Suzy for all her hard work. Even greater thanks to YOU GUYS, for providing the most important part: CONTENT. It's just some code on a server somewhere without the input of all the list members.
