Still a great tool though. Doesn't matter what the *dealer* says, what does your *car* tell you? Seriously, what does the Service Indicator say? (Some may call the SI lights BS, but IMO they're a tool to be used to *help* you maintain your car.) Unless of course the dealer is going to perform this service FREE, under the 36month/36,000miles maintenance program. In that case...nevermind :-) > When he said > the > cost was about $450, I asked what it entailed? He listed a complete > check > over and a change of the fuel filter. Anybody have a more > detailed list > (for > the $450)? Thanks in advance..........Greg ('97 M3/4) in SW Mi. Hmmm, from the description and price est., sounds like an Inspection I (which is mostly an oil change with a lot of "checks" as you describe). But based on your mileage, you should actually be due for an Inspection II soon (which is more involved and more expensive, sorry). Quick review: 96+ E36s have a basic service cycle of 10K miles, and the cycle is: Oil Service Inspection I Oil Service Inspection II repeat... Also, you can find a list of all the "recommended" service tasks for each level of above service in your Service and Warranty Manual that came with the car. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 P.S. send any replies to the list or <jimbassett@home.com>; I'm going home.

Try this one: http://www.douglasbattery.com/pages/frame.html It is interesting but I don't know how much good it will do. I tried buying a Douglas Battery when mine died 1.5 years ago. Douglas did not sell retail back then. Looks like they just manufacture batteries to spec for mass retailers. It is interesting if you go to their "Product Specifactions" for automotive batteries. It is a little tricky to get to it. Go to the Home Page and click on Products, then Douglas Battery Automotive, then Product Specifications. Note that even Douglas does NOT list a group 92 battery for the M3. They go 48/91 then 49/93. I guess the only place to get a group 92 battery is from the BMW dealer. Also note I think there are differences between a 48 battery and a 91 battery. A 48 or 49 battery has the terminals ABOVE the top of the battery. But a 91, 92, or 93 has the terminals FLUSH with the top of the battery. I think. You guys with 48 or 49 series batteries please report. I'll double check my BMW 92 series battery tonight to confirm the terminals are flush. I still say a group 92 battery fits best. Apparently nobody sells a group 92 battery for retail. Why on earth did BMW choose their own unique battery? #6. Insurance question (pertaining to State Farms) - from Chester Wong
Top
Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 21:03:28 -0800 (PST) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: Insurance question (pertaining to State Farms) Hi guys...got a question. With a clean record, living in Brooklyn, NY I'm paying about $4500 per year for insurance...ugh. (The amount that I've spent on insurance for the past two years could have bought me a new Hyundai or something). Anyway, I'm turning 25 in April and I've been told by the lovely people at the local insurance company that it will go down $2k per year...woo hoo! The problem is that I pay on a semi-annual basis and my next coverate period begins March 1, 2001. The insurance rep said that the new reduced rate will not kick in until the coverage period after I turn 25--September. I think it quite ridiculous to pay the higher rate for the 4 months that I'm already 25. I called today trying to find out how I can pay the least amount. So here's the conversation I had today with the lovely rep: Me: "I was wondering if there was a way to not pay the higher rate after I turn 25." Her: "I'm afraid the new rate will be effective in September." Me: "What about switching to a monthly plan?" Her: "Yeah...that will work." Me: "That's great...are there any disadvantages to going monthly?" Her: "No...just that you'll have to pay every month." Me: "Oh...that's not a problem...does it cost anything?" Her: "Yeah...a dollar service charge per month." Me: "Oh..that's nothing compared to what I would save." Her: "Definitely." I'm afraid she wasn't really listening to what I was asking. I asked her about what you guys were talking about State Farms reclassifying the M3 (if anyone could provide me with more detail, that would be great) and she just brushed me off saying, "Oh yeah...you already have a discount." I said, "Buy I heard that State Farms recently...like within a week or two reclassi...." "Yeah...you have discounts," she interrupted. So what I'm thinking happened is that the rate won't change until September and she basically thought I was looking for a stretch pay option and couldn't afford the $2.5k hit for March. Anyone know what should happen? Of course, I'll call tomorrow, but it helps to learn from the experience of the many on this list ;) Thanks, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
