#3. Tigers and miatas and M's, oh my! - from Jonathan Evans

Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2001 09:44:30 -0500 From: "Jonathan Evans" <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> Subject: Tigers and miatas and M's, oh my! To open the story I think I need to explain that I learned to drive on my dad's 66 Sunbeam Tiger. There's nothing quite like 300 ft-lbs of torque in a 2500lb English convertible with Lucas electronics and a "dated" suspension. The rear would HOP when you popped the clutch. Scary. But somehow very alluring... You feel like you are on the edge of death So, I bought a meat after seeing them whoop up at the local autocross. Only car for two years before the need to stretch out in the car really hit me. I'm 6'1'' and JUST fit in the car. Amazing suspension and you can't beat the top down driving experience. And I think about half the local owners are REALLY into their cars. Parts are cheap, gas is cheap, insurance is cheap, reliable as hell and aftermarket parts out the wazoo. I put a supercharger on it, but lost some of the essence of sports car feel to it. (Dynoed at 137.4 at the rear wheels, don't laugh) But, I wanted a fast as hell sports car with room for four in a pinch that can go out to any track (bigger than a parking lot) in the land UNMODIFIED and whoop up. Miata missed the mark on that one by a mile. M3 fit that and then some. Hmm... maybe I'm just justifying the expensive parts, insurance, and services, gas, but damn, I love this car. Thank you for your time, Jonathan Evans 95 M3 (Dream car. I think I've got a keeper)

Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2001 08:58:02 -0600 From: Paul Agustin <agustin@iaxs.net> Subject: Miatas vs Z3 Gawd with all this Miata talk now I'm reconsidering what to talk my fiancé into. She has always wanted a Miata, and I just never thought much of them. I have been talking her into a Z3 or more specifically an MZ3 for the last year. We still have another year to come to a final conclusion as her lease won't run out until then, but now I just don't know which way to go. The Miata is cheaper and just, as if not more, modifiable but on the other hand it isn't an MZ3. The MZ3 well we all know about the marque and its abilities. You guys certainly don't make it easy sometimes. Paul Agustin 97 F3 (Two wheel toy) 95 M3 (My toy) 93 ZJ (Truckin around) 99 Saturn (Her baby)

Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2001 15:56:33 From: "daanesh chanduwadia" <daanesh@hotmail.com> Subject: this just in: Bridgestone S03 http://www.bridgestone-firestone.com/news/consumer/news/010207c.html for the lazy: "UNI-T AQII, the newest development, incorporates a variety of improvements to the earlier UNI-T and UNI-T AQ technologies to give drivers even stronger wet or dry performance, both when the tire is new and when it is worn. The new Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position with UNI-T AQII has a UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grading system) rating of 220 (treadwear) AA (traction) A (temperature). To ensure performance in wet driving conditions, the tire's design includes a number of innovative water evacuation and road gripping features. The tread pattern includes grooved wall riblets to reduce water turbulence, continuous racing car nose shaped block edges for smooth water draining, 3D wings and 3D grooves to maintain surface drainage and to keep groove width more consistent as the tire wears, and ACS (Adaptive Contact System) for more uniform element contact pressure. The tread elements were designed to have optimal pitch sequence to minimize noise, both new and worn. The tread compound includes special softening and polymerization agents to improve grip, while the construction features a new tread-on-tread design to provide more consistent performance in the wet. While the earlier Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Position with UNI-T AQ featured a dual layer tread, that second layer of tread was not exposed until a portion of the outer most tread layer had worn away. With the new Potenza S-03 Pole Position with UNI-T AQII, the second tread compound is exposed in the center of the tire when new, and gradually more is exposed from the center outward as the tire wears." _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
