By swaping hats on at 96 or later you can regain some of the negative camber. So you do not need to do this for the 95. www.racepad.com

#2. [FS] 1998 BMW 528iA - from Carguymb@aol.com

Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 19:39:30 EST From: Carguymb@aol.com Subject: [FS] 1998 BMW 528iA A good friend here in the Philly area has just been posted back to the UK. His wife is still here, winding up things, and is faced with having to sell his BMW. She's car-clueless, so has asked me to help out. So, with that preamble, here's the details: 1998 528iA WBADD6326WBW39421 12/97 build date, 1/15/98 in service date (warranty through 1/15/02 or 50k miles) 41,225 miles Canyon Red (metallic burgundy) exterior, Montana (graphite) leather interior. All the usual 528i goodies: Power memory seats, power steering column adjustment, power moonroof, alarm, steering wheel stereo controls ASC, ABS, front/side/head airbags, carpet floor mats, etc, etc. Options: Automatic Premium package (15" alloys, leather, wood trim) 6-disc CD changer BMW portable cell phone What I know about the car: My friend just bought it in January, after his lease ran out (he was the original leasee), expecting to keep it for a while, and not anticipating this job move. The car's in nice overall shape, with no curb rash on the wheels, and no obvious dings and flaws other than a scratch on the hood that was touched up, and one on the fender that was not. These appear to be paint marks, rather than dings in the metal. I understand it to have been serviced regularly, initially by the dealer, although the book stamps are not all current. (Getting dealers to stamp service records seems to be like getting blood from a stone...). It has current PA inspection, two new tires (although they're Dunlops, and the other two are Contis). I noticed it's missing the box wrench from the tool kit, and the jacking "puck" on the right front. Also, the power steering reservoir appeared to have fluid on the outside. If it's not just from a poorly aimed top-off this would be a warranty item. Overall, I'd rate the condition as "good". I ran the figures on Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds and NADA which are: KBB: $25,825 trade; $34,705 retail Edmunds: $27,387 trade; $29,059 private retail; $31,845 dealer retail NADA: $30,775 trade; $34,525 retail That's quite a spread! Dealer asking prices around here seem to be up the high end of the KBB/NADA range. Taking all that into consideration, we're asking $28,500. Car is available for test drives and independent inspection. Any questions, and I can e-mail the owner for answers. Please contact me if interested. Thanks for the bandwidth. Martin Bullen '95 M3 '97 Z3 2.8 '98 528iA (temporarily....)

#4. OBC backlights - from Joe Kannookadan

Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 18:57:24 -0600 From: "Joe Kannookadan" <joe.kannookadan@sourcelight.com> Subject: OBC backlights The OBC on my 97 sometimes dims in portions of the display. And a knock or two to the dash seems to bring them back. It's the same 2 bulbs which like to dim occasionally. I took the OBC out to take a look at the bulbs/connections, but everything seems to be good. Should I be looking for something else; has someone else had this problem? If not, I assume it's just flaky bulbs (which is kinda strange because I thought bulbs were either on or burned out.. oh well)... does someone know if I can get these bulbs at a Pep Boys or Radio Shack? Or do I have to take a trip to the dealer? Does anyone have a part #? TIA! --- joe

Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 19:07:53 -0600 From: "Joe Kannookadan" <joe.kannookadan@sourcelight.com> Subject: 3M paint protection I'm thinking about getting the clear 3M stuff since I got a new hood, grill assembly, and repainted airdam... thanks to the lady who backed into it with her Blazer! The only good thing to come out of that is the chance to keep a stone-chip-free-front-end; my previous airdam was on the verge of ridiculous. I really don't like bras (I mean on cars, that is <g>)... does anyone have experience with the stuff... good or bad? Thanks! --- joe

#7. BMW Repair Shop Recommendation - from Bora Akyol
Top
Date: Thu, 01 Mar 2001 17:02:10 -0800 From: Bora Akyol <akyol@akyol.org> Subject: BMW Repair Shop Recommendation I would like to recommend German Auto Specialist in Sunnyvale,CA (www.bmwspecialist.com) to all BMW owners that are in the area. They are not only good at fixing regular maintenance problems but they pay attention to what else may be going wrong in your car (and have the honesty to tell you when you need to attend to it instead of "now") and take care of it. They also install performance parts such as Dinan. If you go there, please tell them Bora Akyol sent you. Bora

Top
Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 21:46:10 EST From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] 95 Upper Front Strut Mounts -> 96- ? David, I think the question was about putting '96+ strut hats on a '95 M3. This will work. The '96+ strut hats have the strut offset to the outside for less camber. If you install the '96+ strut hats on a '95 the right way, i.e. L on L, R on R, you will end up with LESS camber than stock '95. However, if you swap the strut hats L on R, R on L, then you end up with a little MORE negative camber than stock '95. I think Bob Tunnell says a '95 M3 can gain 0.5 negative camber this way.
