I don't seem to recall whether it did or not, and I am curious. Of course I will never take out the instrument pod for this reason. Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2001 09:04:55 -0500 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: 3M paint protection I have the 3M (Scotchcal) paint protection on my M3 (Cosmos) and my fiancees 2000 Accord (Silver). Her Accord looks fantastic with it and it is barely noticeable. The M3 was somewhat harder to do and it is more noticeable as a result. I feel it is worth it and if you can not tint windows well, leave the installation to professionals. I agree about your comment on bras. I prefer to see them lying on the floor by the bed ;-) Regards, Rich

#5. 95 vs. 98 impressions - from Jonathan Evans
Top
Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2001 09:10:54 -0500 From: "Jonathan Evans" <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> Subject: 95 vs. 98 impressions I get to drive a 98 2 door M (40k miles) for a couple of days (my normal commuter is a 95 M 2 door with 60k miles) and have been impressed. Both are totally stock, 5 speed, etc... 98 has more torque, seems faster and has better gearing for around town driving. Better turn in and steering feel as well. Shifts smoother too. Brakes grab quicker with more authority. We won't even compare the HK sound system to mine (is that treble I hear??). So, how do I (please keep in mind my inherent cheapness): 1. Make my car a LITTLE bit faster (chip?). I've got a triflow exhaust (love it). 2. "Enhance" steering feel. Get 96 strut hats and swap them? Smaller steering wheel? 3. Change my gear oil? It was smoother cold than mine is when warm. 4. Change brake pads, rotors, fluid? I thought they were changed 10k miles ago. 5. Sell my car and buy his? His is for sale BTW. Hmm, I may have just answered my own question. Jonathan 95 M3 Raleigh, NC

I have a 95 and I did drive two or three 96+ M3s. Both cars are nice, you can chip your car with either a J.C or an AA chip, and do the cold air intake. This should give you a few more HP (10+). Also note that the suspension on your car has more years on it than the 98 that you drove, it may be time to replace worn parts. #8. Yet another H2O pump story.. - from Skip Bogard

Date: Fri, 02 Mar 2001 11:08:43 -0500 From: Skip Bogard <Skip.Bogard@ALUMni.DUKE.edu> Subject: Yet another H2O pump story.. For those of you who still haven't replaced their plastic water pump, another horror story that should convince you. (sorry for the crosspost if you subscribe to UUCGarage). Broken shrapnel story follows... - Skip Subject: E36 water pump replaced, now heater intermittently working Car: 1994 E36 325i 120k miles Earlier this week, big explosion of water onto the windshield and under the car, followed by smoke coming out of the hood. Pulled over, and the upper radiator hose is off. I re-attached, filled with water, and it overheated about a mile away. Tried re-filling, topping off, and it still overheated within a mile or two of the re- fill. Before this incident, the heater worked fine - warm air when called for. After the rad. hose came off, no heat at all - maybe a little under _de_celeration. So, decided it was the water pump, and sure enough, my plastic impeller made it 120k miles before slipping on the shaft. I replaced the thermostat as well. The repair went very smoothly, except that now the heater still doesnt' blow warm air. After driving for awhile, and bleeding/refilling coolant, the heater does blow some warm air, but not until the temp gauge has been at the middle for at least 10 minutes. It is still luke warm. Intermittently, I have felt hot air, but it goes away after awhile again. I can drive for 10 miles with only cold air. A piece of the water pump impeller was missing - ~1/4 to 3/8" triangular piece. Could this be stuck in the heater valve? (My car has the dual-solenoid valve near the brake booster - 1 electrical connector w/ 3 wires, plus 3 heater hoses attached. Do these valves fail often? Any other thoughts on why the sudden loss of heat after the H2O pump failure? Thanks, Rich 94 325i 4dr, 120k miles Tempe, Arizona

If you want the safety benefits and aesthetic benefits of HID, get a real HID setup. Get both the ellipsoids and the gen II kit from Supreme Power Parts. The bulb fits into the reflector without modification. You need to bleed your brakes and maybe change rotors/pads. 4. You need to check your front suspension bushings 5. You need to change tranny fluid I have driven my 95 back-to-back with a 98 and didn't notice a difference in speed. There was more lowend grunt on the 3.2 but nothing terribly different. In fact the 3.0 felt smoother and revved a lot better. This past weekend I dyno'd comparably to some of the 3.2 M3's that were there so I don't think they are faster cars (except all the M Coupe's were pushing 260-270hp to the crank). Brakes, shifting, steering all felt the same. The 95 has more negative camber and I believe toe is the same so turn-in should be similar. Nothing much changed between these cars besides the engine size, front camber and the staggered wheel sizes. Correct me if I am wrong anyone?
