Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2001 09:14:49 -0800 From: Patrick Sarne <patrick.sarne@hoylecapital.com> Subject: 95 vs. 98 impressions Jonathan, It's is generally accepted that the 96+ M3 have better low-end grunt while the 95 breathes better at high rpm. So around town, sure, you'll feel faster with the higher torque of the 3.2l engine. As for turn-in, I wonder if the 225 tires (vs 235 for the 1995) make a difference. I know that when I replace my aftermarket Fikse's with 245s on my 95 with the stock 235, I certainly feel a difference in turn-in. As for shifting, try a synthetic fluid (and are both shifters stock?). The 96+ also have a different final drive ratio, but bigger rear tires as well. I think it's a wash, but if not, I'm sure someone will correct me. For the price difference between selling your 95 and buying a 98, you could probably mod your car pretty good. HTH, Patrick Sarne 1995 M3 <--wouldn't sell for a 98

You can't see it unless you're close to the car, it is SO worth it. One day at the track earned me 20 tiny chips! Since I put the film on, almost none. It was a pain to apply. If you like DIY, it took several hours. Otherwise, have it done. don __ __ 95 318ti / / / / | / | Alpine White / / / / |/ | 95 M3 / / / / | Dakar Yellow /_/_/_/__/|__/|__| >I have the 3M (Scotchcal) paint protection on my M3 (Cosmos) and my fiancees >2000 Accord (Silver). I just bought a new battery from BMW Norwood, it was about $90, roughly. I checked it's part# against my old battery, and it's a little different. Could one of you wise battery gurus tell me if this one is appropriate for my car before I install it? my OLD (and nearly dead) batttery was: 61218353651 the NEW battery I just purchased (with a neat green 'eye' to monitor somethingorother) is: 61218381738 I'd greatly appreciate any help! Also, I had Dent Wizard repair 3 dents spread across 2 fenders for $180 total. One place said they didn't want to do it as the dent was close to the body line, but BMW Norwood (MA) set it up for me, and I can't even find where the dent used to be! Lovely process. Not super cheap, but I definitely got a professional repair - highly recommended. it's going to be 50 in MA next week! scott yu

Hm. I don't know if they did your gear oil 10K miles ago... Also, you could always get the X-brace - that might tighten up the steering feel in addition to new suspension components, as someone else suggested. Does selling your car and buying a newer M3 go with your inherent cheapness? Just asking... scott > Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2001 09:10:54 -0500 > From: "Jonathan Evans" <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> > Subject: 95 vs. 98 impressions > > So, how do I (please keep in mind my inherent cheapness): > > 1. It engine also feels smoother. The suspension feels much softer (too soft). Brakes feel very similar. The clutch feel is much different, much smoother on the 98. Overall, I am shocked by the amount of refinement added to the 98 over the 95. Everything about the 98 feels better except for the softer springs. -Chris Sautter ----Original Message----- >I get to drive a 98 2 door M (40k miles) for a couple of days (my normal >commuter is a 95 M 2 door with 60k miles) and have been impressed. Maybe the ones that I drove were in bad shape. i wonder if anyone sees the real point here. human beings are not equipped to make accurate comparisons. what seems faster one day can very seem slower the next. we can't even get a few of us to agree that all M3s are about the same. much less, comparing an M3 with a chip to one without. or an M3 to another car. i find it funny when people are rabid about their opinions of something as complex as cars based on a single 10 minute sampling. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
