I bought the Autopower cage kit, but don't intend to race my M3 at least this year, I just plan on racing my 928S. I am asking $450 for the cage complete with window net. I ended up ordering a regular allen key from McMaster-Carr, <www.mcmaster.com> and bought the nutsert installation tools for the x-brace thats been cluttering up my garage at the same time... Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 23:25:56 -0500 From: "Tom Tice" <tetice@triad.rr.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] removing pilot sports I may be a little late on this thread but thought I would throw in my $0.02. Last Saturday I scoured the city (with a little help from the local Hunter Rep) and found a tire shop that has the Hunter TC 3500. They wouldn't quote me a price to mount and balance the tires until they had seen what wheels and tires I had (I thought this was a good sign). I had the stock M Contours and a set of Khumo track tires. They said "no problem we did a set like that last week" and quoted me $80. I thought I was in good shape. They also claimed to do all the tire work for the local exotic car dealer (Ferraris, etc.) which I also thought was a good sign. While I didn't specifically get a guarantee of no damages, they assured me they would not damage the wheels. So they struggled for over an hour and three wheels looked great. The last wheel got some pretty significant rash and a couple of pry marks from the big bar they use to unmount/mount the tires. I was not happy and let them know that but their definition of damage was different than mine. It seems surface scratches and pry bar marks don't count only deep gouges do. I watched the guy do all of the work and the lesson here is that they need more than to just purchase the right equipment. The guy doing the work needs the right equipment between his ears as well. I checked out the Hunter link http://www.hunter.com/pub/undercar/4369T/4369T.htm and found that these guys were not even close to following the recommended procedure instead they used two gorillas and pry bars. The equipment was capable but the users had either never been trained or didn't care to take the time to do it right. They actually broke the bead of one of the Pirelli P7000s taking it off. The dealer here charges $37.50 per wheel which is steep but I guess either they know how to do it right or have factored the purchase of a few new wheels into their price . I believe it is the only machine that can achieve the "road match". If you want to find someone in your area that has one check here: http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/search/FindGSP9700.cfm Tom Tice '98 M3/4 '99 540/6 > The "road matched" feature that the Hunter machine has is truly > awesome. It contains a 12mm, 14mm and 17mm. The 14 mm is too long to fit. It can be cut to fit though. If cut in the right place the left over can be used in a 14mm socket that may fit better in the tight space. This set uses harden steel that just laughs at my hack saw. I'm about half way through it with a cutting wheel on a dremel tool. The cutting is a pain, if you have the time, order the Facom from Steve D. According to a conversation on the club racing list, there is a good reason for T.C. Kline's unresponsiveness right now. I don't remember the exact reason...it may have had something to do with a key employee leaving or something (so don't go quoting me on this). Regardless, rest assured that there is a good explanation and in the past, all dealings I have had with T.C. Kline have been great. FWIW, the explanation came from Bob Tunnell, so it in essence came straight from the horses mouth. Try calling them back. Hopefully they'll be back to normal soon. -Bryan Watts

Anyone have a set of take offs for sale? I'm looking for two 8.5" wheels, but a whole set (staggered or otherwise) is fine, too. Wheels must be in perfect shape, no scratches, curb rash, etc...and must not be refinished. Thanks, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
