#1. Wheel Offset Question - from Brian Liau

Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 08:15:13 -0600 From: "Brian Liau" <bliau@hotmail.com> Subject: Wheel Offset Question I will be getting a set of 18" Mas Sagitta wheels with 235/40 tires. The offset of these wheels are +35mm. The stock rears are 41mm offset. I am currently running 245/40-17 on the rears (stock). I don't predict any fender rubbing since I will be getting a narrower tire (by 10mm) with these new wheels, but will that negate the 6mm offset difference? Bottom line, will I experience any rubbing on the fender wall? Please cc: directly to me. Thanks for the help.

I would think that the seat back leather is that way also. So worst case, you could swap over the leather cover from the replacement pass. seat to your original driver's seat. I thought mine always went to the middle position, but lately it stops one click before the middle. I changed the microfilter about 4 -5 months ago, could it be clogged so soon? 97 M3/4 5 speed.

So if the interior of the car is cold and you want heat, the fan speed goes real high? Same goes for when the interior is hot and you want cold and AC, the fan goes real high as well? At least that's what I think when I think of the word "Auto". #7. Hot Soaking the top end??? - from Mount, Mike

Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 09:07:51 -0800 From: "Mount, Mike" <JMMn@pge.com> Subject: Hot Soaking the top end??? List-ers, somewhere along the way I read a procedure called a 'Hot Soak' of the top end. It basically bleeds BGK fluid into the intake while the engine is running to clean the intake valves and combustion chamber. IIRC, it's part of the Inspection process. Between watching Speedvision and ordering new goodies for my next track event I haven't taken the time to read my Bentley manual or search unofficialbmw, etc. ( I know, I know, RTFM ie read the $%#*&% manual! ) Anyone know the process? Know where/ which vacuum line to use? Point to a url with blow by blow pics of the process? TIA, Mike '95 M3 w/ a dirty top end

Anything tricky about it other than remove the screws and pop away from the clips? Re-installation the proverbial "reverse the process?" thanks, steve c.

Was hopping it was just a relay. No luck. MoDic reported a general fault that, IMO, was somewhat vague. When I first asked the list about this, an AA tech repoted back that he would bet it was the ABS unit...AA reportedly replaces quite a few. Unfortunatley, this agreed with my dealer's opinion of the fault code. Sad to say, yes, the ABS unit is a $1600 part and a couple of hours to replace.... Roger W. I live in Illinois and I had my check done last year. I initially had concerns about the intake and chip (95 M3) passing. They had just installed the new equipment with the rollers and various other new doodads. Not only did I pass but the results were way below the allowed failure #'s. I also compared it to my prior emmisions test and they were better than those #'s, albeit, different equipment used. The facility is a mile from me so I guess that's enough to heat up the cats. When it comes down to it, the state you're in may make a difference. I also did the inspection II services maybe a month before I was summoned so that probably squared off the vehicle.
