In my experience, the "Auto" setting sets the fan speed wherever necessary based on inside temperature and the climate control temp setting. It doesn't always go to one particular position (hence "Auto"? <shrug>). Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4

#2. 3.0 intake on 3.2 engine & why 3.2 so limited in power - from Josh Criswold

Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 10:58:13 -0800 (PST) From: Josh Criswold <g_force_alt@yahoo.com> Subject: 3.0 intake on 3.2 engine & why 3.2 so limited in power There was a brief discussion on the roadfly M3 forum about installing a 3.0 intake on a 3.2 motor. The gist of discussion is that the 3.0 has a less restrictive intake, and installing it onto the 3.2 would enable the 3.2 to produce more power (at the expense of some torque). But, you might have to convert to OBD-I to run the 3.0 intake b/c of some sensor issues. Anyone know what sensor issues? or if you really do have to convert to OBD-I? Any idea what components in the intake are different and beneficial? On a related note, why is the 3.2 less responsive to bolt on upgrades than the 3.0? I've heard that with a 3.0, 380 bhp is achievable with an intake, exhaust, MAF, and chip, while with a 3.2, 365 can be expected. Is this because of the more restrictive intake found on the 3.2? Any other reasons? Thanks, Josh '98 M3 '72 2002tii __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/

I think three types of fasteners are involved..2 rivet types and 1 clip-type. The clip type run behind the skirt over the whole length and there are quite a few. Absolutely you will break a bunch. Very brittle. Go to dealer and get a few rivet fasteners and a bunch of the clips. Otherwise, very straight forward R&R. Roger W. I've heard that with a >3.0, 380 bhp is achievable with an intake, exhaust, >MAF, and chip, while with a 3.2, 365 can be expected. it's the damn computer. the "more advanced" computer on the 3.2 engines is programmed to make 240 hp. so when you "upgrade" something, the computer compensates DOWN in an effort to keep the car producing 240 hp. (i know this was an oversimplification, but it's the point (your'e fighting the computer) that counts) _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 21:30:28 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: Seat Replacement Question Ben, On my '95 M3 (with "Vader" seats) the passenger side seat back has two seat back releases - one on the door side, and one on the console side. I guess this lets the driver release the seat back for someone who needs to get into the back seat from the passenger side (and is too dumb to figure out how to release the seat back). The driver's side seat back only has a seat back release on the door side. I'm not sure if this would cause a problem when trying to mate a passenger side seat back with a driver's side seat bottom. -rb >Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2001 09:08:25 -0800 >From: "Ben C. If you, or anyone else wants them, they include prices, parts needed and other general questions. It is not a simple buy the parts and replace the US parts with Euro parts. There is some mounting bracket fabrication and machining of the oil canister housing to make it work. I bought mine over a year ago and still have not done the install (not enough time in the day and I want to do the install myself) Chris T. 97 M3

Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 15:24:38 -0800 From: Scott Chan <scottch@juniper.net> Subject: Oil temps and pressures on track? What kind of oil temps and pressures are normally-aspirated E36 M3s generating on track? I am seeing 60psi at full rev, 28psi at idle, and temps up to 250F (ambient 65F). Water temp gauge is locked at the straight-vertical mark. This is with synthetic oil, no oil cooler. -- Scott
