Chris, Check out this link: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/interior/e36_iluminated_shift_knob.html There is a adapter harness that plugs into the lighted shift knob and connects to the back of the instrument panel dimmer switch. The adapter harness looks like a y-cable. You unplug the connector from the instrument panel dimmer switch, plug it into the adapter harness, and plug the instrument panel dimmer switch into the adapter harness. The third (long) wire on the adapter harness plugs into the lighted shift knob. When I installed my gauges in the sunglass holder, I purchased an additional adapter harness, as well as an additional connector and pins (like you find at the end of the lighted shifter knob) and used this to provide dimmable lighting to my gauges. (I didn't want to tap into the ashtray light). Hope this helps. -rb >Date: Fri, 9 Mar 2001 16:48:04 -0500 >From: "Chris Brown" <ChrisB@Drextec.com> >Subject: Help! #3. Check engine light came on!!! - from Mark Radelow

Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2001 10:36:16 -0000 From: "Mark Radelow" <radelow@hotmail.com> Subject: Check engine light came on!!! So I did the little 5 foot press test thing (it's a 95 M3 BTW) and up popped error code 1221. Which indicates "EGO Sensor #1". Now I am not *sure* what this is. But I would bet the family farm that is means a faulty O2 sensor (which has 53,000 miles on it). Can anyone verify this and let me know? (EGO would appear to stand for Exhaust Gas Oxygen, right?) Thanks guys!!! :) Mark _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

#4. trade in valude of my '97 M3 - from Paul Elliott

Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2001 08:55:09 -0500 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: trade in valude of my '97 M3 For what its worth, I looked up in Kelly Bluebook the value of your car in your area as a tradein.....I listed your car as being in 'good' condition, the definition for which you'll find below...It does seem, as is always the case, that the dealer uses his own book for values..In my area, they all use something called the Galves book.....I dont think youll see that in any stores....It must be something which contains lowball prices which only the dealers use, to make sure theyre consistantly about $3-5K below the true market value, guaranteeing them a profit when they dispose. 1997 BMW 3 Series M3 Sedan 4D Engine: 6-Cyl. 3.2 Liter Trans: 5 Speed Manual Drive: Rear Wheel Drive Mileage: 56,000 Ways to Buy a Used Car Ways To Buy a New Car List Your Car For Sale Online Financing Quote Insurance Quote Warranty Quote Parts & Accessories Payment Calculator Equipment Air Conditioning Power Steering Power Windows Power Door Locks Tilt Wheel AM/FM Stereo Cassette Dual Air Bags ABS (4-Wheel) Traction Control Leather Sliding Sun Roof Alloy Wheels Consumer Rated Condition: Good "Good" condition means that the vehicle is free of any major defects. The paint, body and interior have only minor (if any) blemishes, and there are no major mechanical problems. In states where rust is a problem, this should be very minimal, and a deduction should be made to correct it. The tires match and have substantial tread wear left. A clean title history is assumed. A "good" vehicle will need some reconditioning to be sold at retail; however major reconditioning should be deducted from the value. Most recent model cars owned by consumers fall into this category. Trade-In Value $22,550 Trade-in value represents what you might expect to receive from a dealer for this consumer owned vehicle. Keep in mind that the dealer must then absorb the cost of making the vehicle ready for sale, advertising, sales commissions, arranging financing and insurance and standing behind the vehicle for any mechanical or safety problems. _____________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3 <25000 mi Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift kit and Clutch Stop; Skaggs Pedals; X-brace; Sound by Kenwood Excelon, Polk, JL Audio

I have a couple other questions... The dyno sheet on the TMS site (link below) looks like there's an increase in rev limit with the cam kit over even the Euro HFM/chip kit. Is that the case and is it necessary to fully take advantage of the cams? Are there any recommended upgrades to the valvetrain if there is a further increase in rev limit? Any torque figures or a full dyno run with torque shown? Does peak torque move up in rpm? I'd expect some movement of the torque curve with different cams, but Jim tends to produce miracles so I won't assume that there's any loss of any low end grunt. http://www.turnermotorsport.com/image/engine/engine_cams_dyno.jpg -- Ron Katona
