#1. questions about RMS Aftercooler Kit - from F. Graziano

Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 23:44:28 -0500 From: "F. Graziano" <fgraziano@monmouth.com> Subject: questions about RMS Aftercooler Kit Well obviously the title says it all. Is this a worthwhile upgrade for me. I have a dinan supercharged car and im looking for even more power. Im getting a new clutch, flywheel and headers, and im throwing in the EMS gauge pack and UUC short shifter. Im looking around for more things to blow my paycheck on and i really like the idea of chargecooling my car. IS this kit worth the ~2500 bucks??? will i see the 30-40hp/tq gains they claim. I've never heard of anyone running htis yet it seems like a great idea i mean imagine running over 5psi on a turbo without an intercooler.... Any complaints, regrets etc are obviously welcome. Thanks, Frank =20

I was thinking of contacting them, or Corky Bell and buying an Intercooler that way. Then take the car to Conforti/Eurosport/etc... and have a custom chip done. Probally still come out less than $2500. The other way is the turbo, but thats another story. Bill Lackey From: "F. Graziano" <fgraziano@monmouth.com> Reply-To: "F. PF90s don't need a lot of bedding, particularly if you don't have to get rid of any previous pad material. My protocol is to do 4-5 stops from about 40 mph, followed by 4-5 stops from 60-70 mph. Then I give them a nice long cooldown. First time out on track I'll give them 2-3 laps where I'm only braking at about 70-80%. After coming in off the track I do 2-3 laps around the infield. So far never had warped rotors. Cheers, Peter Reinhart - http://www.neuro.duke.edu/phr/m3.html NCC/Tarheel Chapters BMWCCA, NASA, PCA (E36 M3/4)

I agree, PF90's don't need much attention when new. Not hard on rotors either. - Rich

#7. suspension upgrade - 95 M3 - from Gary A. Preece
Top
Date: Wed, 14 Mar 2001 12:08:16 -0500 From: "Gary A. Preece" <gapreece@entreky.net> Subject: suspension upgrade - 95 M3 Hey guys and girls, I have ordered the Konis and O.E. H&R's along with all of the reinforcements plates, gaskets and mounts. In addition, I went ahead and ordered 4 self-locking collar nuts (#31 33 1 092 887) and 2 self-locking hex nuts (#33 52 1 137 360) for the rear. Can anyone tell me which nuts, bolts, etc. I should replace in the front? The Bentley says something about replacing the "encapsulated bolts". I bought the gasket and strut reinforcement, but I was wondering if I was missing anything. I already own a set of spring compressors, 22mm deepwell, torx sockets for the drive axle, strut tube cutter, compressed air, etc. Anything that I will just HAVE to have in order to get the job done? I plan to do it over the weekend and into Monday if I have to. Seems like things usually take longer than expected when you have to run and get something or wait on parts. Thanks for the help. #8. Eibach springs/stock shocks... - from Juan Rico
Top
Date: Wed, 14 Mar 2001 09:13:02 -0800 From: Juan Rico <juan_rico@captionsinc.com> Subject: Eibach springs/stock shocks... Well the subject line says it all. If anyone is running Eibach springs with stock shocks, can you share your experiences? Does this combination work? I know the H&R's are a no-no, but I was wondering if the Eibachs, due to their more forgiving nature, (or so says everybody who's tried both) might actually work with the stock shocks. Are there any springs out there that eliminate the wheel gap and also work with stock shocks? I want to avoid the dreaded Bilstein's (or spending a fortune on a full suspension setup.) Thanks for any insights! Juan.

Date: Wed, 14 Mar 2001 10:29:22 -0800 From: "Joe Dyer" <joedyer@home.com> Subject: Re: catalytic converter Bob, =20 I don't think the AAA answerer got the right point! We all know the = Cat Converter is a "part of the exhaust system". But it is only there to make the car pass the SMOG regulations. IT IS NOT THERE TO TRANSFER EXHAUST GASSES FROM THE ENGINE TO THE TAIL PIPE! A straight piece of pipe in place of the converter will serve that purpose. The ONLY = reason for a Catalytic Converter is to meet the regulations for cleaning the emissions. It is a LEGAL requirement. =20 Joe (I still think you have a strong case) Dyer ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Bob <mailto:bobweber@bellsouth.net> Weber=20 To: lhassig@earthlink.net <mailto:lhassig@earthlink.net> ; hensonator@yahoo.com <mailto:hensonator@yahoo.com> =20 Cc: joedyer@home.com <mailto:joedyer@home.com> ; SRiley@cardinalcapital.com <mailto:SRiley@cardinalcapital.com> =20 Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2001 7:56 AM Subject: catalytic converter You have each offered me assistance in my cat situation. Easy Care sent me the following message and a like to an EPA page. Is he correct that my argument is going to go nowhere? Thanks again bob Mr. Weber, Please see address below for A.A.A. No need to send a letter to EasyCare as your e-mail serves that = purpose. Understand that there are many parts of the "exhaust system" that are part of reducing emissions. The converter being one of them. The fact that the converter and = other parts for that matter, help in reducing emissions does not mean these parts are not part of the exhaust system. In fact they are. If you look up "Exhaust System" in any Auto Encyclopedia or factory manuals you will see the converter listed as well as numerous other parts like the muffler, tailpipe etc. etc. these parts all play a role in the = emissions system but are in fact without a doubt, part of your exhaust system as again the converters sole purpose is to burn unburned gases that have been "exhausted" from the engine and no letter from anyone including the EPA will change that. I don't see how a BMW technician could say that the converter is not part of the exhaust system It's sits right between the = "exhaust" pipe and the tail pipe which again provide the passage for release of exhaust gases from the engine. =20 Below was copied and pasted from the EPA's internet site clearly indicating the converter as part of the exhaust system.
