Both "real" warpage and perceived one. If you are using different brake pads on the street and track, you may experience a "warpage" type of symptom when in fact your rotors are *not* warped. What they have instead is different pad compound applied unevenly to the surface of the rotor. Happened a few times when I used to switch between PF90's and OEM Jurids. Solution - spray rotors with brake cleaner and drive a while.... I had a similar problem when my car was in the shop for a month with its' infamous DME blowout. Sat outside for a month, rotors got rusty. Once the rust burned off, it cfame back to normal. Took about 3-4 days. 2) PF90 break-in - two/three 60-0 ABS-invokijng stops. All done. If you are breaking in new rotors, be sure to cool them down in between. A word of advise - if you are using PF90's, keep them in for both street and track. Learn to deal with rattle. The best pad out there. GMK '97 M3/4 (http://www.motorsports-exchange.com)

The 1995s had 3-channel, 4-wheel ABS (both rears on the same channel). 1996+ had 4-channel, 4-wheel ABS.

Is > this a viable mod for the US motor? You have to either: 1. Retap the oil pressure port for the correct bolt size for the Vanos line 2. Have a new Vanos line made up with correct sized ends. Most people go with (1) from what I understand. On the euro motor, the Vanos gets its oil directly from the head. It's not a bolt on, but close... John

#5. Bedding PF-90's - from ERogers005@aol.com
Top
Date: Wed, 14 Mar 2001 14:56:29 EST From: ERogers005@aol.com Subject: Bedding PF-90's Mike ... according to Porterfield they told me to drive about a hundred or so miles in order to get the pad material worked into the new rotors (in my case Stillen cross drilled rotors). No hard braking during this time. Just normal smooth stops. I then took the car to Thunderhill. After the warm up lap I then began my hard braking and the amount of "juddering" was unreal. Someone on the list said it was the pads depositing compound on the rotors, that the "juddering" had to be experienced to be believed, and that it would all go away in time. This all turned out to be true for my case. Subsequent sessions and a recent weekend gave hard, strong and smooth braking w/no juddering or shudder. I always take a few cool down runs through the pits before parking and work hard on my braking technique per Michael Lord's "teachings". Good Luck Ed Rogers 95 M3 w/PF90's and Stillens

I know this is an old question for the group-but maybe there are others curious, too. Can those of you with older M3's comment on the value of an extended warranty? I was quoted today $1830 from Warranty Gold (Diamond plan; 5yr, 100K mi, $0 deductible) which covers everything but: battery; shocks; manual trans stuff; safety systems; glass; lenses; bulbs; rotors; emission systems; weather strips; trim; moldings; bright metal; chrome; upholstery/carpet; paint; outside ornamentation; bumpers; body; tires; wheels/rims. What I want to know is how likely is it that something really major fail on the car, will it pay for itself, and is this a decent price? If I amortize the money for 5 years at 5.4% I would have ~$2400 to play with...Thanks-if this is WOBW email me directly. Jason Olin 97 Cosmos Black M3 2-dr 49.5K mi jolin@mail.nih.gov

I had the WG Diamond coverage (I paid $1,600) I'll include the known costs ;) All the work was performed at a BMW dealership with no deductible, no questions asked and without any hassles. 2 water pumps replacements: $450*2= $900 Rear trailing arm bushings: $850 OBC replacement: Around $300 Both front seat heaters: $300 Valve cover replacement: $300 (could be more...) Belts replacement: I'm not sure why they covered this but they did. 2 Power steering pump leaks fixed. I'm forgetting a whole bunch of stuff, believe me, but these are some things that come to mind... My advice: get it! I'm about to buy extended warranty on my 98 M3. Several testimonials on the web convinced me. Use the search engine on Suzy's web to find the old postings. Who to buy it from is a major question. -- ========================== georgecarrjr@rmi.net

At less than two years old, my car is getting uncomfortably close to the end of it's warranty. Do these extended warranties need to be purchased before the original one runs out, or can they be added at any time? I simply don't have the $1830 to plunk down right now, but after reading this list for so long and experiencing what I already have with this car, I'd like the comfort of having an extended warranty.
