One solution to this problem is to run spacers on the rear using the 215's and create the 'staggered' arrangement. I run only snows on the rear (215 Yoko Guardex), and my 225 MXX3 Pilots up front. Initially, a bad (dangerous) driving experience. My 5mm spacers made it a better experience (able to handle up to 60mph) without feeling squirrelly. This year switched to 15mm spacers, and bingo, 70mph with good stability. Also, I keep the Yokos at 40psi and the Pilots at 32psi. Have never been stuck in the PA snow yet (where's that wood to knock on) ;-)) YMMV. Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA AS Champion 1997 & 2000 #13 BSP 2001

#3. Eibach sway bars rubbing control arms - from Robert S. Hatrak II \(Rob\)

Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 11:35:07 -0800 From: "Robert S. Hatrak II \(Rob\)" <hatrak@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Eibach sway bars rubbing control arms Group, =20 Has anyone with eibach sways installed and set to full stiff front and rear had any problems with the rear bars hitting the control arms? The noise occurs when driving the car over speed bumps as well as going up/down a steep driveway at an angle. =20 When the bars were set to soft/soft, I had no issue at all. As soon as they were set to stiff/sitff, I have hitting/rubbing in the rear. The front of the car has also developed the same type of noise, but I have yet to diagnose what/if something is also hitting/rubbing. =20 I know for a fact that it is not the bushings, as they were re-lubed = and taped this morning. The mounts and connecting rods are all brand new = as well. =20 Any ideas? =20 Thanks, Rob 95 M3 (suspension =3D stock struts and springs and huge red = swaybars)

As the subject states my engine bay is rather dirty (6 years of the North East will do it haha). I recieved advice to use a citrus bases cleanser as it would no damage the components in the engine as much as a harsher detergent. Any recommendations on DIY products or maybe a detailer in the Central New Jersey area that could help me out? Thanks, Frank (this is only the first in my restoration ventures) Graziano =20

#5. spacers - from Kit Wetzler
Top
Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 12:55:12 -0800 From: "Kit Wetzler" <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: spacers > Turner says absolutely no bigger spacer for the track. I run a 10mm hubcentric spacer, I had to in order to get my 245/40r17 G-force R1As (now nicely corded) to fit. The reason they say not to use big spacers is that is increases the scrub radius a bit too much... makes the steering feel very responsive, but also very jerky. You have to keep a really heavy grip on the wheel (Donna Seeley can attest to this) in order to get the car to go straight, every little bump and jerk makes the wheel pull violently. The spacers do help turn in and, by increasing track, they do decrease weight transfer and increase grip, but there is a significant cost. BTW, anyone here interested in a set of track wheels? $800 for a set of straight 8.5" m-contours, with 2 corded R1As, and 2 not corded R1As? prefer Bay Area buyers... -kit, who is considering not tracking his m3 anymore

Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 16:33:14 -0500 From: "Matt Malfa" <matt@shortshifter.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Rear Tail Light Failure Actually, all US model E36's came equipped with check control, unlike the rest of the world where it was optional. That's the problem with buying OEM and not OE; you have a set of tail lights that are not check control compatible, i.e. for one reason or another, they do not send back the required voltage that the check control uses to verify that everything is kosher. Get a refund if you can, I'm not really sure of any options to modify them. - -Matt The Bambislayer, with OE clear signals -----Original Message----- From: NickG [mailto:nikog@MediaOne.net] Sent: Saturday, March 17, 2001 4:27 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Rear Tail Light Failure Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 16:25:25 -0500 From: "NickG" <nikog@MediaOne.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Rear Tail Light Failure Apparently you have the OBC in your center console. Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 17:05:09 -0800 From: "David Hogg" <springwood@blazenet.net> Subject: Front tires rubbing strut housing Thanks to all who offered help. I'm going to order the 10mm spacers from Steve D'G and see if they fix the problem. There's some concern that they won't work with Fikse's but I compared the bevel to the stock wheel and I don't see any reason why not. We'll see... The next best idea was to run 235's in the front. Problem is, it doesn't appear that Hoosier has a 235. I'll post the final outcome, which hopefully is close at hand. Dave Hogg

Also get lots of stiff bristle paint brushes in various sizes. Foaming engine cleaners work well for the grimier underbelly areas. Just be warned that if you have any brightwork aluminum like a strut bar, remove it forst. Most of the more aggressive cleaners, like gunk etc, will dull the aluminum finish. Jim "F.
