BMW doesn't even have a procedure to flush the system.. only bleed it. Anyhow, I can't remember off the top of my head if the power steering pump has a drain bolt on it. However, if you haven't had your power steering hoses replaced yet, now is a good time and with those remove, most of the ATF will pour out. So say you bought the 2 hoses, clamps, 1qt ATF etc. and replaced them with the ATF drained. The front wheels must be off the ground, add ATF to the top, with engine off, turn steering wheel all the way to the right till it locks and do the same thing turning left till it locks 3x. Check and add ATF. Now with engine running, turn the steering wheel the same way till it locks. Check and add ATF if necessary. Clean up mess and test drive. Parts and tools you may need if you want to replace hoses: * P/S Intake Manifold hose to the pump * P/S cooler return line to the resivoir * 1qt of ATF DexronIII/Mercon * 2 or 4 crush washers * 2 or 3 clamps * 10mm socket * 22mm socket or wrench * Pair of dikes to remove factory clamps * Long funnel " Not sure why Jonathan specifies the girls in the procedure, though... =) --- "Gardner, Russell - BALTO" <russell.gardner@piperrudnick.com> wrote: > Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 10:48:50 -0500 > From: "Gardner, Russell - BALTO" <russell.gardner@piperrudnick.com> > Subject: RE: PS Pump PM Advice Requested > > Got any suggestions regarding preventive maintenance on the PS pump for a > '95 M3? > > Car has 80k, no visible or apparent PS issues. I believe that the time is still correct but no longer lights up. The display to the right still works with no dimming. Is this a bulb, PC board or OBC replacement? How hard is it to get to the OBC to fix it? I've seen email like this before but never really paid attention because I thought what a silly thing to go wrong. Well it happened to me. Any help is appreciated. steve 96 M3, stock

#4. VANOS travel spec? - from daanesh chanduwadia
Top
Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 19:30:57 From: "daanesh chanduwadia" <daanesh@hotmail.com> Subject: VANOS travel spec? since my VANOS rebuild, there is a severe hole or dip in the torque curve between around 1800 and ~4200 RPM. the fuel economy is also down by 4 MPG overall and it takes a deliberate shove on the throttle to get the car to accelerate. the tech that did the work opened the cover back up to recheck his work and says that everything is okay -- the minimum required travel is 8.5mm, mine tested at 9-10. i'm curious to know what the 'spec' is, (he claims there is only a minimum). what's the usual/normal? i'm fairly certain from the feel of things that 9-10 isn't it. for some reason the number 14 sticks out in my mind... wouldn't a lack of advance account for the change i feel in the power curve (i find myself running the motor between 1500 and 2500 now -- before the motor seemed 'happiest' between 2200 and 3700). any thoughts? daanesh p.s. where can i have the car dynoed near Boston? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 12:09:25 -0800 (PST) From: Mark Zenz <mtzenz@excite.com> Subject: Eibach sway bars rubbing control arms Rob, I have the same problem with mine. Even backing out of the driveway when I get to the bottom where there is uneven pavement, I hear the noise. I checked my rear control arm bushings and they appear to be shot. This may allow the extra travel and allow the sway bar to hit the control arms. I think this may be contributing to my alignment going out so fast. (I have a 97 with 65k miles) Mark Zenz -------------------- 3 -------------------- Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 11:35:07 -0800 From: "Robert S. Hatrak II \(Rob\)" <hatrak@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Eibach sway bars rubbing control arms Group, =20 Has anyone with eibach sways installed and set to full stiff front and rear had any problems with the rear bars hitting the control arms? The noise occurs when driving the car over speed bumps as well as going up/down a steep driveway at an angle. =20 When the bars were set to soft/soft, I had no issue at all. As soon as they were set to stiff/sitff, I have hitting/rubbing in the rear. The front of the car has also developed the same type of noise, but I have yet to diagnose what/if something is also hitting/rubbing. =20 I know for a fact that it is not the bushings, as they were re-lubed = and taped this morning. The mounts and connecting rods are all brand new = as well. =20 Any ideas? =20 Thanks, Rob 95 M3 (suspension =3D stock struts and springs and huge red = swaybars) _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/

That's the problem with buying OEM and not OE; you have a set of tail lights that are not check control compatible, i.e. for one reason or another, they do not send back the required voltage that the check control uses to verify that everything is kosher. Get a refund if you can, I'm not really sure of any options to modify them. - -Matt The Bambislayer, with OE clear signals _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/

#10. Door Molding - from david tow
Top
Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 14:25:35 -0800 From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: Door Molding Hi, all, I had a loose door mount on the left side of my 95 M3 coupe. Upon inspection, I found out that the rubber insert on the last clip close to the door's edge was shot. I went to my local dealer and got a fresh piece of rubber insert and put things in order. The last clip got inserted back to the hole very nicely. But now I've noticed that the top of the molding (in the middle) has a noticeable gap that easily invites dust to get inside the mounting area. It looks to me that the molding might be slightly distorted, or one of the clips does not grab the molding back in well enough. I don't think I bent it with force, since I did it with great care. But, again, the loose molding was probably waving slightly in the air to cause enough force to distort it on the way to work. What should I look into to fix this? Does that mean I might have to replace some clips? When taking out the old clip, what tool should I use? Or should I just pull it out with some force?
