Do the higher-revving Euro engines (3.0L and 3.2L) have hydraulic cam followers like the US engines do, or do they have a solid follower and require manual adjustments (shims?)? Just curious... -rb >Date: Tue, 20 Mar 2001 14:32:48 EST >From: RogRacer@aol.com >Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: 300 HP Cams/Valvetrain > >With all this talk about this aggressive cam retrofit, it really makes me >wonder about the claims of the stock valve bearings/retainers/keepers >being "adequate". According to RDSport, you just need these and decent retainers (BMW's Nitride retainers okay, Ti nor necessary and can fracture?) to achieve a redline of 7800-8000. No springs necessary. The shims can be sourced from BSR, the Schrick importer. I've also heard that the US valves start to float around 7400. This really depends on the age of the system since weak springs/tappets will make it worse. Then there's the problem of the retainers - they don't really cause valve float but they can fail (at least on the '95) and this is catastrophic. It makes sense that the higher RPMs can increase the probability of having a retainer fail. So I guess you aren't going to do any better than 7300 or so with the stock lifters. What RPM does that trick cam max out at? YMMV, don't call me if your motor blows at 7500 with Solid lifters.. -Matt --- Ron Buchalski <rbuchals@hotmail.com> wrote: > Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 04:01:13 > From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: 300 HP Cams/Valvetrain > > On a related note... > > Do the higher-revving Euro engines (3.0L and 3.2L) > have hydraulic cam > followers like the US engines do, or do they have a > solid follower and > require manual adjustments (shims?)? > > Just curious... > > -rb > > > >Date: Tue, 20 Mar 2001 14:32:48 EST > >From: RogRacer@aol.com > >Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: 300 HP Cams/Valvetrain > > > >With all this talk about this aggressive cam > retrofit, it really makes me > >wonder about the claims of the stock valve > bearings/retainers/keepers > >being "adequate". My power went from 290 HP at the wheels to over 338 HP at the wheels. That is a gain of 48 HP at the wheels. From what I was told at Turner when I bought them is that I might get 10-15 HP. Imagine how happy I was when I seen the dyno sheet. Bill P

I think they were like $500-550 for the set. The US bottom end is good to around 8k, again according to RDS. I'm not sure that it's necessary to plug the old lines since you still want to lube the lifters. Send an e-mail to Pavoncelli, Federico L. [flpavoncelli@racdyn.com], the president of RDSport and he'll juice 'ya up. -Matt --- Bora Akyol <akyol@mac.com> wrote: > Does anyone has any info on the solid valve lifter > conversion? > > Who sells the parts, does one need a new engine > block?
