#3. E46 M3 Disappointment - from Jonathan Caldito
Top
Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2001 08:23:23 -0500 From: "Jonathan Caldito" <jonnym3@hotmail.com> Subject: E46 M3 Disappointment I usually don't post messages or stories like this since this is an E36 M3 Digest but I thought I'd share with you all when my dealer finally got our first 2001 E46 M3. Everyone from techs, service manager, porters, and even customers went into the shop and attacked the M3. The body and interior is very nice. I got so use to seeing it in pictures so I got bored of it but seeing it in person was sweet. Anyhow, I was surprised it came with Continentals ContiSport tires but they're marked especially for that M3. It even has "M3" etched onto the sidewall. During the Pre-Delivery Inspection I was checking out the engine bay and was shocked seeing the new HFM (with new style connector) integrated with the airbox! It looks like a K&N or ITG cone style filter will NOT fit this intake system unless you CUT off the airbox with a saw and have to do some modifications. There goes the drivetrain warranty. If anything, only a drop in filter will fit for now. Test Drive: The shop foreman and the tech (who owns an E36 M3) that did the Pre-Delivery Inspection took it out for a test drive. When they came back, both told me they were disappointed in its performance. They said it's pretty fast and quick compared to the E36 M3 but it lacked torque, punch, and wasn't worth the extra 90 horsepower. All this even with "Sport" mode on. Only compliment I can remember them saying was that it was smooth and revs forever. Ummm, must be that 100bar (1400psi) regulated oil pressure system working. I feel better now knowing my E36 M3 isn't "small" or inferior to the E46 M3. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Size on all is 235/45-17. All have plenty of rubber left, would be great for schools or auto-X. Asking $50 each, or all six for $250. Prefer pick up in SE Mass. Email privately if interested.

#6.Motor mount upgrade options? - from Rob
Top
Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2001 12:27:55 -0700 From: "Rob" <motor@cadvision.com> Subject: <E36> Motor mount upgrade options? Anyone know which E36 model has the stiffest motor mounts?. I think its time to upgrade/replace the mount on my '95 M3 and I'm wondering if the Euro M3's or maybe the 3.2L cars had stiffer mounts?. Do 325's and M3's use the same mounts? Maybe I could even use an M5 or V8 mounts? TIA, Rob

So here is the question... How tight should the Ground Control urathane rear shock mounts be. I could squish(technical term) them until they looked like a pancake, but I think that might be a tad bit extreme. Anybody have an idea on this? #10. Turns over... No start - from Chad Milam
Top
Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2001 16:57:15 -0800 (PST) From: Chad Milam <m_three99@yahoo.com> Subject: Turns over... No start Sorry for the slightly off topic post. I have a 93 325i(a) that just wont start. Here is what happened.... I backed up out of the garage and didnt let it run long, and shut the car off .. A few hours later I return... and much to my dismay the car would not start up.... It turns over, but just wont start... The car has a full tank of fuel, and has not had any problems at all starting before... wierd... Also, it does not appear to be throwing any codes. Any thoughts or suggestions before I resort to having it towed.. Thanks, Chad 99 m3, 93 325i(dead for the moment) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
