Your idle air control valve is sticking. For this you can replace the idle air control valve which is located underneath the intake manifold. This is the least likely cause that I can give you for a diagnosis. The 2nd most likely cause is that your flooded your cylinders with fuel. Here's what to do, get in the car and put the gas pedal all the way down. Start the engine and keep in cranking it and should start within a few seconds. As soon is it starts up, rev it high and down and rev it up again till you see no more black smoke. Take it for a few miles for a test drive. Hope this helps, Jon Caldito '98 M3 _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Given that the stock cams max out the valve train at 7500 rpm >(maybe less), I wonder what the margin of safety is with the new >cams. If, indeed, there is any margin left at all? > >Roger W. Graves >RogRacer@aol.com >Orlando >'95 M3 The lift and duration of these particular cams is a somewhat mild increase over stock and doesn't require the addition of solid lifters, hp valve springs, etc. Personally I have never heard of anyone floating valves at 7500rpm in their stock E36 M3. I'm not saying that it is not possible, I'm just saying that I have never seen it. I have heard rumor of valve float at 7800rpm, but that was only rumor. On the other hand I have had people send me their computers for software upgrades that have had tell tale/recorded over-revs of 8800rpm and by all accounts their motors are running fine. Now that being said I would not be comfortable running an engine that has seen 8K or higher without a serious internal inspection. #7. OBD-II connector - from Bruce Mitchell

Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2001 23:01:10 -0600 From: Bruce Mitchell <bruce.mitchell@mediaone.net> Subject: OBD-II connector I've only seen the round 20-pin connector under the hood used for OBD-II diags, but I thought all OBD-II cars required the 16-pin D-type connector to be compliant. Where's the 16-pin connector on an OBD-II E36 M3? Thanks, Bruce Mitchell Windy City Chapter '98 M3

#9. track wheels - from reed nicholson
Top
Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2001 12:33:34 From: "reed nicholson" <reedthis48@hotmail.com> Subject: track wheels I'm finally gonna get some track wheels and tires for driving schools and lapping days, and I'm looking for input on the wheels. I'd like strong, lightweight, easy to clean, and not at the upper end of the price scale. The only two I'm aware of like that are the SSR, especially the new Competition, and IFG A5. Anyone have comments on the relative merits of these two, or have other suggestions? I'm probably gonna go with an 81/2x17 to best fit the 235/40-17 A032R's. Instructions I got for mine by phone from GC: Tighten until you just can no longer turn the large metal dished washer on top of the RSM with your fingers. Now tighten one more full turn. Neil 96 M3
