#1. rear strut brace questions - from David Hogg

Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 20:42:01 -0800 From: "David Hogg" <springwood@blazenet.net> Subject: rear strut brace questions Bob, I have the Dinan rear brace. Fit and ease of removal (for making room for big things in the trunk) are outstanding, and it looks cool. As for function, most owners wouldn't notice anything at all. Given that you're hard core, you'll notice the body to be just a little bit stiffer under very hard maneuvers. And since you're going for hundredths of a second, it certainly won't hurt you. Generally, I'd say it's the last upgrade to do when everything else has been done and you still have $$$ burning a hole in your pocket. It makes that big a difference. Dave Hogg

Many teenagers will wad up their cars without the benefit of 300+ hp. This kind of car only eases the ability to do it quicker. I think the insurance industry is justified in their assessment of this class of driver (scary I am agreeing with the insurance industry). An eighteen year old with an E46 M3 would have to have exorbitant premiums ($4,000 plus I bet depending on various factors of course). Don't take offense Frank, you just happen to be an exception to the rule. You should be proud of this fact, not offended by the generalization. The generalization still holds true whether you like it or not. We were all teenagers at one time or another, some of us were exceptions, a lot of us were probably not. Some of us probably still have not grown up ;-) Best regards, Rich - Young enough to remember my teenage years and old enough to realize how poor a driver I was then (and still learning ;-)

If I have time & feel like enjoying the drive, I'll take it. I'll get to practice being smooth, with the track tires in the back seat. I can't recall, are you signed up Mike? If so, see you there. Do you get more miles out of your track tires (my setup is 8" all >around, with 235 A032R's)? I run 8.5" up front, so can't answer your street tire mileage question, but the car is still pretty stable a highway speeds (I run 1/16" toe-in). It can be a bit twitchy at "higher" speeds on some surfaces, but generally it's OK. And I do seem to get more use out of the track tires; the wear across the front tires is more even, but still a bit more on the outside edge. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - still original shocks & struts @ ~86,000 miles

I noticed that = Turner sells a reverse thread nut to fill the hole if you were to remove the fan. My questions. 1.) will i see any power gains from removing this fan? 2.) is it safe to remove the fan, i was told its ok as long as you = don't sit in traffic for long periods of time. 3.) has anyone done this on their street car? 4.) is this a worthy cause or am i just being cheap? =20 Thanks, Frank =20

I would like something to stiffen the tranny mounts for my occasional track days but I also want to go back to the stock ride afterwards. If they work, these would seem to fit the bill perfectly. #9. foggy windows - SOLVED! - from David Michael
Top
Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 23:09:42 -0500 From: "David Michael" <carieanddavid@mediaone.net> Subject: foggy windows - SOLVED! A few months ago, I posted a note bemoaning the constantly foggy = windows in my car. I received many helpful suggestions, but unfortunately, none of them made any difference at all. =20 A few weeks ago, I noticed that there was no seal at the leading edge = of the air intake grill, and that the grill was kinda loose and rattly. I checked my trusty ETKA, and found that indeed, there was supposed to be a seal there. I called up Wagner motors in Boylston mass, found they = HAD ONE IN STOCK (!!), drove up at lunch, and installed it. =20 Now, through even the torrential rains we had a few days ago and the sloppy slushy stuff we had yesterday, the windows remained clear and = dry inside. I theory is that all the water/moisture kicked up by the = wheels generated moisture in the engine compartment, which was then being fed straight to the air intake. The other possibility is that the air-flow from the engine compartments was "stalling" the air for the fresh air intake, and that I was getting no fresh air. =20 Anyway - thought it was a slightly interesting tidbit (admittedly, not very interesting compared to e46 m3 test drive reports) =20 Dave=20 98 m3/4 xbrace =20
