I noticed on the sticker under my hood that the fan clutch assembly is a modified one from Dinan. Does this include the fan blade itself or just the mechanisms? My question is do i need to contact dinan for a replacement or are they factory parts? #2. market adjustment - from dHoleman@spooze.com

Date: 28 Mar 2001 07:32:46 -0800 From: dHoleman@spooze.com Subject: market adjustment Doesn't BMW seriously frown on this behavior for a brand new car. I know that some dealers have bought the cars and turned them as "used" or had customers buy them and then the dealer buys it right back to sell. They get around BMW this way but on the new car sticker that's bold! Hope BMW gets wind of this dealership - since it is right on the sticker. When the Z3 came out and was hot we found a dealer and just paid MSRP. No one should patronize this behavior. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1424917&a=12302287&p=44945027&Sequence=0&res=high David www.racepad.com

Looking at this window sticker (minus the market adjustment which will go away in a matter of time) the car is similarly appointed almost down to the letter with my 99 M3 and costs ~$9K more. This makes me both happy and sad. I don't think I will be buying one of these very soon as I can't see owning a car that costs that much in my future right now. It makes me happy though as once this sinks in I think my 99 M3 (which may be sold to purchase a tow vehicle for my track obsession) will soon have greater value. They sound cool as hell though and worth the money, long live M cars and may I drive an E46 M3 some day. For now I drive a fully kitted track car worth about $20K even with all it's goodies. :) Dave Spragg dave@spragg.com Natick, MA 99 M3 Sharked 92 330is Sharked and Supercharged (undergoing surgery) -----Original Message----- From: Steve D'Gerolamo [mailto:steved3@idt.net] Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2001 7:00 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] E46 M3 Market Adjustments Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 06:54:49 -0500 From: "Steve D'Gerolamo" <steved3@idt.net> Subject: E46 M3 Market Adjustments At least I paid MSRP for my E55.....BMW will never get my money with practices like this. I had a chance to try out Alan's H&R coilovers in SF, and I was very impressed with their feeling of control. I've noticed that Koni also offers a coilover kit, with attractive pricing. I'm curious if the supple feeling of the regular Koni shock (thanks for the ride, Bill!) would be present in any way on the koni kit - while I really liked the H&R, if they were a _bit_ more supple, they'd be perfect for my needs. The H&R's definitely aren't "eyeball-shaking" rough, as some folks told me they might be. Thanks for any insight! Also, if someone has a Koni coilover kit somewhere in new england, the bay area, or around L.A., can I cop a ride sometime in the next couple of months? Take it easy, folks - scott yu Boston/San Mateo/Wherever

Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 11:16:29 -0500 From: "Roy Kao" <bimmerphile@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] E46 M3 Market Adjustments This "Market Adjustment" concept is a strange one for us Canucks. The dealers here stick strictly to the MSRP from the manufacturerer's agent, in this case BMW Canada. Apparently, we are moving closer towards the German dealership franchising model and BMW Canada is becoming more heavily involved in each dealer, especially the larger ones. Our dealerships now all look the same and the colors of tiles and lighting are all specified by the Mothership and look identical to the dealerships in Munich that I have visited. Maybe that's why the dealers do not ask for markup. I know Honda dealers were asking for small markups on the S2000 when they were first released about 1 1/2 years ago but that practice didn't last very long. One more interesting note: the Canadian dealers are not allowed to knowingly sell our allotment of cars, especially limited supply cars like the E46 M3 and the M5, to non-Canadian buyers. Apparently we've been raided by buyers and dealers across the border before and since there is no market adjustment price here coupled with the currency exchange advantage, they've made a killing selling Canadian spec cars. Sometimes, these buyers will ship cars overseas to Asia but mostly this is to keep the American buyers at bay. Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 11:40:47 -0500 From: "daanesh chanduwadia" <daanesh@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: rear strut brace questions i always thought the rear strut brace was purely cosmetic. but then i drove an E36 328i sport down one of the worst stretches of road in the history of man. campared to my roomate at the time's E36 328i sport car it was solid. turn-in was crisper too, as was composure over mid-corner bumps. the difference? it was one of the few cars that i had driven w/o fold down rear seats. so i looked through fast facts and found the following specs for the E46 (which i might have posted in the past -- if so forgive me ;) "static torsional rigidity: sedan 18000Nm per degree sedan w/fold downs 13,000Nm sport wagon w/fold downs 14,000Nm coupe w/fold downs 12,500 convertible 10,500Nm An interesting note here is that folding rear seats always entail some loss of rigidity)." i remember early on people argued against the rear brace saying a) they're not struts and b) the LTWs had only the X brace and the front upper brace. here's the question for you LTW owners: did any of the lightweights have fold down rears? my guess is no. BMW wouldn't leave sunroofs, power seats, and fold down rear seats optional unless there were a benefit to not having 'em. so the point is i'm not sure the rear brace is as useless as we all think, especailly since many of us have the fold-downs... -daanesh 95M3and00M5, both with fold-downs : ( _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Since you're running the same size all around, I HIGHLY recommend that you periodically rotate F<->R, and also have the tires flipped L<->R. For reference, I got nearly 40,000 miles out of the previous set of Pilot Sports by doing this. I'll get less out of the current AVS Sports (which is fine - I hate these tires, they absolutely SUCK in the wet). I rotated the AVS Sports after about 7000 miles, and just had them flipped L<->R at about 13,000 miles of wear. (IIRC, the Pilot Sports went 10K & 20K before these operations.) The now-outside tread blocks are nearly worn all the way down, so I hope to get another 13K on them. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4

I've just recently rotated them F-R... Problem is they'll wear on the inside and that's not "rotatable" (by rotating them on the rim) since they have a specific inner and outer side... I did some testing today. Freeway straight for 10-15 minutes at aprox. 80-90 mph. The outer edge of the tires contact patches where totally cold... the inner not... But good news ahead, I ordered adjutable excentric bolts for the upper mount between spindle and strut tower. Will make it possible to adjust to slightly less negative camber. And to make it more even between L and R too. /Magnus Thomé > -----Original Message----- > From: Jim Bassett [mailto:jimbassett@home.com] > Sent: den 28 mars 2001 19:20 > To: Magnus Thomé; E36M3 > Subject: RE: [E36M3] New struts and bearing swap? > > > At 01:40 AM 3/28/01, Magnus Thomé wrote: > >I swapped the strut mounts yesterday and got a surprise.
