I know that some dealers have bought the cars and turned them as "used" or had customers buy them and then the dealer buys it right back to sell. They get around BMW this way but on the new car sticker that's bold! Hope BMW gets wind of this dealership - since it is right on the sticker. When the Z3 came out and was hot we found a dealer and just paid MSRP. No one should patronize this behavior. > > David BMW (or any other OEM) has no real power over the pricing tactics of its franchisees. This is partly anti-trust law, but also state franchise laws, which favor dealers over all else (especially consumers). A sales manager out here in the Bay area told me I could sell my pending M3 for $20k over list, at their dealership! They seem to like screwing the ..com types (and everyone else). Thank goodness that I have an ~honest~ dealer in Chicago (old hometown) who quoted MSRP and put it in writing. Granted, an honest dealership is like military intelligence or jumbo shrimp. Dan

The popular thought at that time was the steeper down angle of the rear glass accelerated the air more and gave more downforce without added drag - making it faster through turns. Fold-down seats - when this feature is added to the car, the thoughtful engineers at BMW decided to add a huge box section of steel that goes around the passthrough. On the e36 chassis, we actually use this box section to attach the rear cage points (when not using rear coilovers) because it ties in heavily to almost all rear suspension points. ----------------------------------------------------------- James Clay http://www.bimmerworld.com Engineered BMW Performance BMWCCA/SCCA Racecar Rental Genuine OEM and Used BMW Parts (540) 639-9648 -----------------------------------------------------------

The part number is 07 11 99 00 58 7. The shoulder of the bolt is machined a bit smaller than the one used in production, allowing the spindle to be moved slightly in relation to the strut. It can be used to adjust the camber about ..5 degree. Nick > Magnus, > Where did you find the adjustable bolt? I'm new to the list. I'm in the market for an M3. I'm looking in the 96-97 model year range to keep the price in the neighborhood of $25-27k (and I want the 3.2l motor). Requirements: Color: Blue, Silver, or White preferred, Techno Violet, green, and maybe black considered Options: cruise control, fold-down rear seats, luxury package Mileage: Less than (or at least near) 50k Preferred, but not required, options: Harmon Kardon stereo, heated seats, sunroof Absolutely not: automatic 4-door models A negotiable finder's fee will go to the fabulously helpful individual who finds the car I buy. Private sellers preferred over dealers. I'm in Boulder, Colorado. I'm happy to travel to pick up the car, though I'd rather not go as far as Florida or some such. Thanks, Seth

Yes, of course, but I was wondering if there was a version with an eccentric that could be used for easier adjustment. Also the crash bolts (at least for many makes) are only torquable once. They stretch so you are supposed to toss them after every use. It would be nice to have something that could be easily and accuratly adjusted with every alignment, a la Porsche. -Matt --- NickG <nikog@MediaOne.net> wrote: > Matt, > > BMW makes a camber correction bolt (aka crash bolt) > for the E36. Matt, Magnus is most likely using the BMW Camber Correction Bolts: 07 11 9 900 587 They've been mentioned here in the past. Some people say they're great, others say that they don't hold up under the stresses of hard driving (autox, racing). -rb >Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2001 14:09:37 -0800 (PST) >From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> >Subject: RE: [E36M3] New struts and bearing swap? > >Magnus, >Where did you find the adjustable bolt? This could be >a hot item for those trying to get more camber or >solve rubbing problems.. Be careful here... the camber bolt (BMW part #07 11 99 00 58 7 and available through any BMW dealer) will give an E36 roughly a half-degree more negative camber, but it will also make the problem of tires/wheels rubbing on the strut *worse*. It is a smaller diameter than the standard bolt (not eccentric) allowing for a calculated amount of "slop" between the hub and strut. The only ways to mitigate a rubbing problem in front is with spacers, wheels with less offset, or smaller tires. Hope that helps, --BT
