They had an absolutely gorgeous blue M3 on the showroom floor (BMW has finally realized that blue is the only color that will make an M3 stand out to the average untrained eye...) Sticker price...$73K. Oh, and on the windshield it had a little orange sign with the word "Sold". Amazing. If this is the way it's going to be I'll have to get mine in Luxembourg...

I now run NEO Synthetics in my motor, 5/30 Weight Also run their Tranny and Diff fluids... Both this Company and Amsoil make top of the line lubricants.. But so does Redline...So I'm puzzled by you wanting to switch???? Here's the NEO link http://www.neosyntheticoil.com I think I will be moving away from RedLine fluids for the tranny and diff. Any recommendations? Factory fill? Mobil 1 synthetic? Also, for the tranny, I assume anything that meets D4 ATF requirements, correct? And for the diff, 75W90, but what about friction modifiers? If I go with Mobil 1, would I need to add anything? Thanks, Chester

Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2001 14:32:31 -0400 From: S Lafredo <slafredo@fast.net> Subject: Re: EWS or Broken Ignition Tab There is a plastic tab in the cylinder that is "designed" to break when the key is forced to turn the cylinder. If broken the key or screwdriver will freely spin so that thieves cannot steal the car. If you bring it to the dealer they will probably blame it on a parking attendant or you. The dealer was unable to repeat the spinning whenever I brought the car in for service. Then one day, I arrived home turned off the car and pulled out the key...hey what's up...the car is still running?!?...call the dealer...it's Saturday...they tell me to bring the car to them and stall it (it's a stick)...I say fine but it won't turn off...they tell me a mechanic will wait for me!:) I get to the dealer...we stall the car...the mechanic disconnects the battery and off I go. They replaced the cylinder. Took 7 days b/c they are keyed and come from Germany. Now I make sure that they key is in ALL and engaged, and I NEVER force the key. HTH. S BTW, I do not every remember forcing the key or hearing anything break. Go figure. There is *some* non-normal sounds, not enough to replace the rack now on a "normally" driven car, but it'll go eventually, Bill said. So we'll change it now, while he's got the car and I've got the money to pay for it :-) Jim Bassett

#5. H&R individual spring p/n's - from Jay L.

Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2001 11:36:41 -0700 (PDT) From: "Jay L." <joong@yahoo.com> Subject: H&R individual spring p/n's Need help in determining if I received the correct springs for my 98 M3 coupe. I installed Bilsteins with H&R 29910.2 springs over the weekend but the car doesn't seem to be much lower, maybe 1/4" tops. I thought it would settle after a couple hundred miles of driving but it hasn't. The front springs were marked 29910. I don't remember what number the rear springs were marked but they were something odd, like 1xxxxx. I thought they would all be marked 29910.2. Everything fit fine during installation, but from the lowering (or lack of it) it seems like I got the OE springs instead of the sports. Car sure does ride significantly rougher. TIA. The Toyo RA-1 235/40-17s (as opposed to 234/45s) are finally available. Here's the latest info on the them for everyone who's interested: "Yes. The 235/40ZR17 RA-1's are in our warehouse so our dealers can order them. They came in about a week ago. Please let everyone know. One nice thing about them is that they have a small rim protector on them. It's not as robust as the ones on our street tires, but much better than our current sizes and any other manufacturer's competition type tire. All of our new sizes should feature this rim protector." *Question* I'm already aware that it's basically okay from a safety standpoint to run the 235s on all four corners with OE staggered rims. My question is regarding the gearing though... Would this slight variation in the rear (235/40 vs. 245/40) cause any "problems" with a stock rear end ('99 M3 manual)? I'm not too worried about ASC as I rarely drive with it on anyway. Thanks! (i live 2 miles from speedware, bonus!) i put some foam on the down bars of mine to stop the annoying noise that occured from the seatbelt banging the down bar, but my foam fixed the problem perfectly. this addition to my car was probably the one i was happiest with. both from looks and functionality. in fact... (since i don't track my street car anymore) i still have a speedware morotsports bar (silver) sitting in my garage, with a complete 5 point (sparco, red) driver side harness too. and it has the fire extinguisher (silver chrome VERY pretty) attached too. even after two years use the bar and exitinguisher are in perfect condition. (what bad could happen to the thing?). the belts are in good condition too, but after two years of use i couldn't call them perfect. though they show hardly any sigln of wear or fraying. if anyone in seattle (that wants to drive over, i don't wanna mess with shipping something so huge) wants to come relieve me of it, i'd be happy to sell it. P.S. one thing. it's NOT a very good idea to put people in the back seat. i don't care HOW much padding you put on that bar. it sits rightabout at teeth level, and if you stop fast, or hit something their face is gonna hit that bar HARD! even if i was wearing a full face helmet i wouldn't want to sit back there. over two years i let 3 people ride back there becuase there were no other choices (usually people too drunk to drive). but i never got the car over 25mph in those circumstances and never drove more then 5 miles. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
