#1. Dinan stage iii suspension install time? - from Drew Bamford
Top
Date: Mon, 02 Apr 2001 21:44:20 From: "Drew Bamford" <drewbam@hotmail.com> Subject: Dinan stage iii suspension install time? To those who have the Dinan Stage III suspension: I'm thinking about having BMW SF install the Stage III suspension on my car while they're re-building it from it's current, wrecked, state. I note that Dinan states on his web site that the install requires 110 units of labor, which I believe to be equivalent to 11 hours. This sounds like a ridiculous amount of time to me, especially at the $150/hr that the service department at BMW charges. My question: Did your installer actually charge you for 11 hours, or did it turn out to be something more reasonable? Thanks! drew _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

#2. OT: "hobby" tax writeoff & driving schools - from Chris Casey

Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2001 15:01:32 -0700 (PDT) From: Chris Casey <ccasey1@yahoo.com> Subject: OT: "hobby" tax writeoff & driving schools Well, 'tis the season again and while stumbling through the screens of TurboTax I came across a section in deductions that asked whether I had any "hobby related" expenses. My question is, can I count the ~$1000 that I spent on driving schools as a hobby related expense? Sorry for the OT post, but I figured if any group of people is doing this it would include several of you track junkies. -Chris not worrying about capital gains for 2001 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? B&B Triflow sells a "test" pipe which replaces the factory cats for approximately $450. <i'm skipping the 2nd question since i have limited experience with aftermarket seats> > Third question, which rollbar should I get if I actually want to get one you have two choices if you want one this year... 1. autopower - cheap, available, fit is ok. 2. DAS-Sport - available (as of now), apparently high quality. you can see pictures at http://dtmpower.net/pictures/das-sport/writeup_das-sport.html i normally recommend TC Kline as i've had 2 in previous cars, but you did say you wanted one this year, right? ben liaw

I had my car tech inspected at Dinan, who found rear shock mounts broken and trailing arm bushings torn. This was repaired on warranty, thank goodness. They can also check for other stuff. My rear differential wass also leaking,(discovered by Dinan), and possibly only fixed (replaced gasket) because I complained about it... Good luck. I have just purchased an extended warranty!!! Drew, Most of the Dinan contract installers use Dinan's standard hours book. Dealers use a standard hours number for most mechanical work, regardless of how long it actually takes. A good mechanic can do a job in half the allotted time, because the hours are set to the average slow tech speed! I'm no authority on this. It's just my observation.
