Date: Mon, 2 Apr 2001 22:45:44 EDT From: ERogers005@aol.com Subject: Alignment Reco Roman ... if you're up to driving to Oakland (airport area) I highly recommend Conversion Techniques. They have state-of-the-art laser alignment and John there certainly knows his stuff. He did a great job on my 95 M3 .... $160 for all 4 corners. I'm planning on replacing all 4 corners and would like to have a quality shop that doesn't charge an arm and a leg check the alignment all around. Thanks in advance, Roman S. 96 ///M3

If you want to be sure you can get a compression check. A blown head gasket would show up there. If you want to be really anal then get a leakdown test. They sell all kinds of Aramid, CF and 'glass. They may not be able to sell the limited quantity that you want but they are known to sell in smaller quantaties then most other places. If you do get into higher volumes then you can find cheaper prices elsewhere. So I guess you could... sell your old M3/E36 parts on eBay that the wife wants out of the garage/basement anyway and THEN write off your new B&B TriFlo... I guess. But then, it's a wash anyway, and who claims cash sales as income anyway?! Of course, I'm no CPA... Jonathan Lukens jlukens@new.rr.com

A.J. - You must have been reading a fiction book. ;-) I've been to the dyno several times for group "dyno days" with my local club. We get a collection of 10-15 M3 each time. About half 3.0L and half 3.2L. Every 3.2L beats every 3.0L every time. The strongest 3.0L does not have as much torque as the weakest 3.2L. 3.0L can make as much hp, but never as much torque. You put the torque curves on top of each other, and the 3.2L has a 10% advantage at every RPM from 1K to 6.5K. Lowell Seaton '95 M3 - lusting for the torque of the 3.2L Dallas, TX

I just paid $699 to get it to my house. Someone take this off my hands please.=20 Thanks, Frank 732-539-7042 =20

The short answer is ... No. The IRS frowns on hobby-related expensing, and in the past that was a near-sure-ticket to an audit. However, audit rates have fallen so precipitously that the situation has changed ... but I wouldn't chance it. Now, if you have a BUSINESS (sole proprietorship, LLC, S corp, C corp, whatever) then it's a whole different ball of wax. That's why you see enclosed trailers plastered with (small-) company logos, etc. There is a book out there all about the tax issue surrounding racing -- but it's pretty old, and so may be noticeably out of date. I'm no CPA either ... Regards, -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com

There has to be something to the E34 M5 touring being a very popular model, not to mention the audi RS4 touring. All these cars , specially the RS4 are indeed very high performance. Why build a station wagon with 130 HP more than an S4. I'm sure an M3 touring would again be very popular..... If I really wanted a '2 door body' it would be a real 2 door sports car.... Anything not purely track related but used in daily driving is a business expense pro-rated by mileage for business vs. personal. Some items may be more likely to trigger an audit or total $ may.
