It's too heavy to be a real sports car. It is, as most people will agree with me, a GT car. Traditionally speaking, a Miata is a sports car along with a number of light weight cars such as Lotus Elises, Porsche 550 Spyders, Alfa Spiders, MGBs, MR2s, etc.. The definition of a sports car these days, however, is getting blurry. Even a 2800 lb Honda S2000 is now considered to be light weight. Sign... #5. BMW M3 KING-PIN - from Dimitris Cobopoulos

Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2001 04:51:13 -0500 From: Dimitris Cobopoulos <jimcob@iis.gr> Subject: BMW M3 KING-PIN Dear friends, I am facing the following problem with my BMW M3 E36. On the right side (pasenger side) of the front suspension the coilover taches the tyre and has graved a circular trace on the tyre. The BMW local dealer informed me that the problem is created because the king-pin (right) is distorted/bent. In the alligment shop they claim that the king-pin on the left side is distorted/bent. This view confuses me and therefore I kindly request you to forward me your point of view. Best Regards, Dimitris

#6. brake pads for schools - from reed nicholson

Date: Wed, 04 Apr 2001 11:45:12 From: "reed nicholson" <reedthis48@hotmail.com> Subject: brake pads for schools Okay, I don't wanna start a big debate about brake pads again, but I need some advice on the best pads for my needs. I just wanna do probably 4 or 5 track days this year, not racing, just driver schools and lapping days at an intermediate pace, and I will probably keep the pads on all season. The car is my daily driver/commuter. Would I be better off with something like the R4S, rather than the PF-90? I don't need ultimate braking force, just something that will survive the track and not ruin my rotors, but work on the street and not be incredibly noisy. Oh Suzy, With your need for speed, you should definitely wait for the V8 version in Victoria Secret Hot Red ;-)) PS: I still like hearing about the new M3 comparo's to the e36 version on THIS list. Now when you all start asking for parts help and saying how much greater this car is compared to the "old" M3...that's when I think the lists should separate, IMO. I use the shims for added camber, which fit between the lower strut housing attachment points to the wheel hub. One washer on each of the two lower bolts gave me about 0.4 degrees more negative camber. Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA AS Champion 1997 & 2000 #13 BSP 2001

It's a common misconception that the lug bolts are held in place by friction. If that were the case then the anti-sieze would allow the bolts to come loose. In reality they are held in by the metal deformation induced by torquing the bolt. So the anti-sieze is a really good idea. -Matt --- Tom Tice <tetice@triad.rr.com> wrote: > Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2001 22:12:57 -0400 > From: "Tom Tice" <tetice@triad.rr.com> > Subject: RE: [E36M3] How to keep wheels from > "freezing" to hub? > > So what's wrong with getting anti-seize on the lug > bolts or bolt holes. #10. Its time for track tires... - from Chris Brown

Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2001 10:17:14 -0400 From: "Chris Brown" <ChrisB@Drextec.com> Subject: Its time for track tires... Hi Folks - Yes, that season has finally reached us here in the Northeast. So now I need some new track tires. I've got 17x8 TSW wheels to mount 'em on, but the R1's on those wheels are _very_ beat. I was running 225/40/17's last year, but I'd like to get a little bit larger if possible. I took a look at Khumo's web site, and the closest I got in the V700 was 225/45/17 ($130 from Tire Rack uncycled/145 cycled). They also had a 245/45/17 ($135/150), but I'm concerned about rubbing with that size. Yokahama A032R is available in 235/40/17 for $158 (this seems about the right size!) 245/45/17 for $166 from Tire Rack... BFGoodrich G-Force R1's 225/45/17 for $120 235/40/17 for $120 245/40/17 for $135 (if this fits it seems a good deal) 245/45/17 for $120 Hoosiers are not an option because of quick wear and cost, unless they have drastically reduced in price since I last used them about 4 years ago. And this is for Drivers Ed, not racing so I'm just trying to have fun but not break the bank or go with ultimate performance. 225/45/17 for $195 245/40/17 for $199 Well, wadda ya think? What will fit? '95 E36 M3 with Eibach Springs and Swaybars, no camber plates or crash bolts (yet..). Thanks _very much_ in advance for all suggestions and info.
