#1. t-hill? - from Kit Wetzler

(125 or so in the front straight). Laguna has braking into turn 2, which is hairy but I think that is the only really hard braking zone... (into turn 11 is hard, but you aren't going as fast, and into the corkscrew is uphill...) -kit 97 m3

Contrary to most "enlightened" drivers (guys who spend more time off track than on, or think that they can spend themselves out of bad driving habits), they are pretty good, low dust and you don't need to change them at the track. Spend your money on tires. They make a bigger difference. Dan (and yes, my stock motor 325is will beat just about any US motor'd, naturally aspirated M3)

#3. Nurburgring reservation reminder - from Scott Smith

Date: Wed, 04 Apr 2001 16:44:38 -0700 From: Scott Smith <ssmith@akamai.com> Subject: Nurburgring reservation reminder This information didn't make it to the Roundel in time... ------- Forwarded Message Subject: Nurburgring reservation reminder Hello Again: One week to go, then it's time to get your name on the list for the 2001 Nurburgring Driving School. For some reason, the info I sent to the Roundel didn't make it into the April issue, so people NOT on this list won't know about how to get in. Since we have more openings this year (IF we can fill them), we all need to think of friends (driving partners) we'd like to drive with and encourage them to reserve a spot. Tell 'em about it or forward this email to them. If you're on an email digest of BMW drivers, you might want to post a message that the School reservations coming up in a week. Here's the drill: We will start accepting reservations for the 2001 International BMW Driving School on Tuesday, April 10th, 2001, no earlier than 10:00 am Eastern Standard Time. Reservations will be accepted as follows: *Call 864/250-0022, the new BMW CCA National Office in South Carolina *Provide your name, address, phone numbers, and email address *Provide your BMW CCA membership number (must be a member) *Provide credit card information for a deposit of $500.00 *You may register up to 2 people per phone call; provide the above information for both (so your driving partner gets in) Reservations will be first come-first served, and we have up to 96 openings with everybody paired two to a car. Please don't ask where you are on the list since we have more than one person taking calls. The School usually fills up quickly,so be prepared to phone at the proper time from your time zone. Reservations will NOT be accepted before that time. The deposit is to make sure we only hear from people who are serious, but it is fully refundable if you inform us by April 30, 2001 that you need to cancel your reservation. A waiting list will be kept if necessary in the order of reservations. On another note, Nurburgring veterans who wish to stay at the Dorint Hotel would be wise to book their room reservation now rather than later. We've had some folks in the past who requested a room there from the BMW Club block and they were sold out. You can reach the Dorint Hotel at 011 49 2691 3090. Reserve the nights of August 14th through 17th, checking out the morning of the 18th. Those like me who don't stay at the Dorint will get room reservations through the School and need not make any arrangements now. When I get the reservation list later next week, I'll be contacting those who are in with a confirmation by email. I'll also inform those on a waiting list, if any. Remember, the National Office has multiple people taking names, so don't ask them what number you are or for a confirmation. I'll get back to you in a timely manner. Happy dialing, Dan Tackett Nurburgring School Co-ordinator ------- End of Forwarded Message

I bought a stethoscope and determined that the squeal is coming from the tensioner idler pulley (upper roller). Doesn't look too hard considering I just did the waterpump, belts, thermostat, Konis and H&R springs. I am glad it wasn't one of the first suspects! I would guess that I should do all the rollers/tensioners, but does any one have a guess at the costs? Any tips? Thanks. Gary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary A. #10. Re: '96 M3 and overheating - from Stan Shaw III

Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2001 21:57:03 -0400 From: "Stan Shaw III" <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: Re: '96 M3 and overheating What is the metal water pump vs plastic water pump impeller date? My car has 105k, now outside extended warranty, and was built 7/96. Under warranty I brought my car in at least once, perhaps twice to complain about antifreeze leaking around radiator cap. I was advised I had the upgraded radiator cap, it was cleaned and I was sent on my way. Less than a year ago, my car's temp gauged pegged (no other signs of overheating), so I had it towed to the dealer who changed the thermostat, for which I was charged. After reading all the "overheating" issues recently presented on the list (a number by Sean Hester, thanks!) I notice that I still have some coolant "appearing" near the radiator cap. I am wondering if the dealer should have resolved this issue while it was under warranty, perhaps requiring replacement of the head gasket. Should I have a leakdown test performed? Other tests? etc. Thanks! Regards, Stan Shaw Excell.Net Phone: (413) 599-0399 Fax: (413) 599-0407 Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net http://www.excell.net/
