Can anyone recommend a quality alignment shop in the Westchester Cty, NY/lower Fairfield Cty, CT area? Would rather not go to the stealer. Thanks, Steve 1995 M32

#3. Lightweight Wheels - from Mark Kern

Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2001 21:23:38 -0700 From: "Mark Kern" <markkern@home.com> Subject: Lightweight Wheels After spending some largish bucks to replace my front and rear tires after one track session and one autocross, I decided enough was enough.... Does anyone know of a good set of lightweight racing wheels that I could buy and use as an extra set of wheels for these events? Also, can someone recommend some good rubber for the track and autocross that won't cost me a fortune like the stock Michelin Pilot Sports tires? And last, but not least, where can I order a good Snap-On quality torque wrench, and what size do I need? Thanks! I want to keep going to events, but I have to find a cheaper way to do it. :) - Mark '99 Cosmos Black M3

#4. Wheels spacers and coil-overs. What size to buy? - from Rob

Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2001 01:03:29 -0600 From: "Rob" <motor@cadvision.com> Subject: Wheels spacers and coil-overs. What size to buy? More problems in BMW land!. Tonight I was going to take out my H&R coil-overs and install my Koni Germany coil-overs until I noticed that the Koni's front dual spring set-up didn't even come close to clearing my wheel/tire. The lower (adjustable) spring perch on the H&R's sits about level with the top of the front tire, but the Koni's lower perch will be about 3" lower than that, so I obviously need some pretty serious spacers!. My car is a '95 with 17x8.5" Fikse FM5's (et37.7mm) and 245/40/17 Toyo T1's. Does anyone know what will and won't work?. I think I can get either 10mm or 15mm hubcentric spacers but I'm worried that even with -2.5deg of camber the tire may rub. Also, with these wide front spacers doesn't track start to become an issue? I can't put spacers on the rear because I know it will rub, but I will be increasing the front track by 30mm!. Thanks, Rob

If your running stock Camber up front try 45lbs Cold to start...Please grab a piece of chalk and very carefully mark up the small arrows you see on the sidewalls. If the chalk wears past the tip of the arrow add more TP.....otherwise bleed a tad out as the day goes on... Now the rears are another story....But, starting at about 37 Cold works fine....Same routine with the chalk...You will probably be able to bleed down from there a couple lbs.... Good luck Dave! Personally, I prefer knowing how the charging system is working to trying to improve on the exact water temp reading. I think it's a risky one and I personally know two people who totaled cars there. These folks were fairly good autocrossers and neither of them was the unfortunate Mustang owner last year. Never run there myself so that is all I will say. For tire pressures I would say 42-44 front and 39-40 rear to start and then bleed them back down to that just before your second and subsequent runs. This is my preferred setup for blacktop and for concrete I bump it up 2 lbs on each end. Obviously your mileage may vary but these worked fairly well for me in my autocrossing a stock M3. I used a LOT of trail braking at autocross events to create camber and thus better turn in by squashing the front end. Also, this was with a stock factory alignment.
