Dennis, I have a couple of V1s with laser detection and IMHO it's next to worthless. First of all, it falses all the time when you are in the vicinity of a neon sign (restaurants, etc). It is also prone to falsing during the rain and on some other random occasions. It worked as advertised only once. I was in a train of cars going 10-15 over on the I-35/I-820 overpass in Forth Worth. Cresting the hill the cop was standing on the side of the road aiming the laser gun at the cars. I got exactly two laser hits: presumably one for the car right in front of me and one for me. I had barely enough time to move the foot off the accelerator between the hits. So if the cop wanted to pulls any of us over she would have had an easy 10+ ticket. Fortunately, this was in TX, not VA (my last east coast state of residence). The difference is between <25 tickets not even going on your record as long as you take a 'safety' course vs. 20+ tickets automatically becoming a felony (reckless driving). > However, twice on a visit to Az last month, I was > aimed at directly by troopers with hand-helds and got > no warnings at all. Remember that pointing an instant-on laser gun and using it are two very different states. Laser has a very narrow beam. I forgot the exact rate of dispersion, but it was on the order of couple feet wide per 500 feet raveled. So unless your car was within few feet of the laser beam your V1 had nothing to detect. I'm debating whether to get the 17X8 or 17x8.5. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm thinking about the 235/40-17 A032R, but 245 will of course be better. Will the 245s fit? Some suggestions? Thanks, Steve 99 M3

I've had them on through the wet season here in San Jose, and the wet traction was pretty good and controllable even with the ASC kicking in. Since I have limited time to auto-x this year (a baby in the house does that to you!), I sold my set of Kumho's and will probably run only a few events on the RE730's, but I don't have any auto-x time on this set (yet). When I started up the M3 on Saturday morning to head to VIR, the thing sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders. The car was already loaded up and it was 5 am, and I really did not want to throw it all in the 5 series and use it for the weekend. SoI kept driving it, finally killing the engine and restarting it, sort of like when my PC starts acting crazy. Well, just like a Microsoft product, it fired up fine and drove fine, all the way up to VIR, and the rest of the weekend. It did set a check engine light, which is still lit. I may bring it to the dealer on Friday, but I'm into my CPO warranty now, and don't want to end up paying for something that I can do myself if it ends up not being covered. I can't read the code since it's a '96 and I don't have a code reader handy. I may order one since I figure I can always use it in the future. If anyone has had a similar experience, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Shane Kleinpeter '96 M3 '88 535is P.S. We watched the F1 race on Speedvision from a buddies trailer. He has Speedvision via a Direct TV sattelite that he hooked up to the side of his enclosed trailer. Nobody wanted to take their novice students out because the race only had 2 laps to go! I finally relented and had to check in after the run session was over to make sure that Ralf really ended up winning.
