I had them on my car with brand new euro rotors and it happened within a week (couple hundred miles). EBC is no longer recommending the greens for e36's because of the weight (they think our cars are pigs :). They are saying the reds and yellows are better for road and track (respectively, not the mag). That said, I would never use EBC pads again. -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steven Tom" <stom@qualcomm.com> > > If the pads are the problem, are they retaining too much heat? #3. Autopower Rollbar Install Report - from andytk@speakeasy.net
Top
Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2001 19:29 -0700 From: andytk@speakeasy.net Subject: Autopower Rollbar Install Report Just wanted to report my findings/experiences. Took only 4 weeks to get which beats the TC Kline experience I've heard about. The fit is ok. The biggest problem is with the pads for the two floor mounts. Not sure about other M3 years, but on a '99 the floorboard is not flat especially near the side rails where this bar is suppose to bolt in. Further, without modification to the pad you end up putting at least one bolt through a large drain plug on the floor board which obviously can't be strong. After examing the whole situation its also obvious that any serious roll cage would have to be attached to the side rails for strength and also to get any additional rigidity out of the chassis. The solution is to fabricate (with the help of some coworkers) pads (4.5 inch square) for the bottom which are approximately twice the size of the orginals. Once these are in place a sandwhich can be created (pad-floorboard-pad) which will distribute the load over a much larger area of the floorboard in the event of a rollover. Next ! you need to cut off the existing pads and then place the bar back in the car and tack it to the new plates. This way the new pads take into consideration the not so flat floorboard of the M3. I guess you could just torque away with the existing pad and plates and get the damn thing in your car and it would look so awfully cool (yeah right), but I would questions its ability at that point to withstand a rollover. With all that said, just out of curiousity, those with a TC Kline bar, did it come with angled pads for the floorboard and if so how big were the pads?? Final recommendation: Don't get it if you can't fabricate different floorboard pads they are way too small to distribute the load. I haven't finished the install yet (just finished making the new pads today) so I'll give a final rundown later next week when I'm done with the whole thing. Andy K.

Yes, they do dust a lot, but I have found very good on the street and also good on the autoX circuit. I trust BMW on their pad selection for the street. So far, they seem OK. They aren't shuddering. They don't seem to be any worse than stock, and I am very happy about the lack of dust. I am sure they are not as grippy as the Poterfields. I'm thinking about the paint they use on the M5 wheels, the bright satin color. Does anyone have the paint #, and can I get it through the dealer? If not, can anyone suggest a similar paint? I live in Chicago, so I'm thinking about taking them to Trans Wheel. Any comments on them? Thanks in advance. Steve 99 M3

I had opportunity to look at my bolt-in TC Kline this afternoon while the car was on the lift. The bar, installed by the previous owner, does indeed have a stepped plate underneath the car. The side towards the side sill is about 3/4" higher than the inboard side. The plate is about 2.5" x 5" and it sits completely behind of the large "drain" hole that you mentioned.
