My -96 M3/4 3.2 has a MK Motorsport chassie which is extremely stiff in the front and way softer in the back. I run 245 PZero-C all around on 8,5x18. With stock wheel alignment it understeered slightly in slower to mid speed corners but actually got a bit nervous in the back at high speed corners. There's no added aerodynamics on the car... Then I did the strut mount swap in the front to add more camber. Now the car has tremendous bite in turn in, no understeer at all if not pushed way way to hard. The car actually lifts the inner front wheel in turns... but gorgeously balanced all the same. MK did a good job! The only downside is some wearing of the inner edge of the front wheel LEAST busy on the track, the one mostly in the air! So, I'm more than surprised hearing about your problems. Do you have stock shocks and springs? What are the sway bars? To me it sounds you must have front/rear swaybars not matched to one another. Or mismatched front and rear shocks/springs. Very odd indeed. Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 16:27:43 -0700 From: "Kit Wetzler" <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: stupid heat shield I've been trying to track down a rattle for about 6 months now. I think I finally found it. one of the heat shields on the midpipe, on the kink before the car seems to be rattling around. Anyone have a fix for that, short of buying a new midpipe? Also, I seem to have lost the heater circuit on my one of my rear O2 sensors... darn. is bank 1 the one closest to the front of the car? which side of the car is the bank 1 sensor on? (passenger or driver's side, assuming a US spec left hand drive car) thanks all. -kit 97 m3/4 who had a really fun track weekend...

Dinan specifies camber on an unloaded car with full tank of gas. On some cars BMW specifies certain weighting on the car. A newbie asked me what to change for the understeer he was having. My first comment was "modify your technique", I wasn't having any problems with my stock '95. I approach car mods by asking myself if Ralf Schumacher/Boris Said could drive my car faster than I could. That's an easy answer, of course they could! Ergo, work on me the driver before the car. Work on my technique (slow hands?). It's also helpful to ask a really fast instructor/club racer (Richard Biscevic, Ralf Warren, Sherman Koo, Blaine or Robyn McNutt, etc etc) to drive your car. It can be an 'eye opening' experience. Just my .02 worth Mike Subject: Re: [E36M3] Dreaded Understeer I think the handling of the car has a lot to do with the "talent" level of the driver.

Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 17:18:15 -0700 From: "Kit Wetzler" <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: 255/40r17s Thanks for everyone who responded to my questions about fitting a Kumho 255/40r17 on my M3/4. They didn't fit at least not before me and my sledgehammer had something to say. :) My car has H&R coilovers, I'm running the kumhos on 17x8.5 stock M-contour wheels. I had to roll the rear fenders almost half an inch out... it took lots of banging on the fender lips with a 2.5lbs sledge hammer to get them to fit. They still rubbed on the inside of the wheel well, too. Sorry to those at the buttonwillow motel 6 that I might've kept up on friday night. They also rubbed in the front, on the spring perch of my H&R coilovers. I didn't notice this until the end of the weekend... had a nice groove in the sidewall, but it didn't go that deeply luckily enough. blah. But, I really do like the 255/40r17 kumhos. my last tires were the 245/40r17 BFG G-force R1As... they are good tires, but much more tricky to drive at the limit. I felt much more in control of the car with the Kumhos. The Kumhos don't hold up to abuse as well, though... the R1As stayed sticky no matter what but the Kumhos got greasy after a 6-7 hard laps (on a low 2 minute course. -kit 97 m3/4

#10. Stock Brake Rotors '95 = '96+ ? - from kmcleaster@iquest.net
Top
Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 22:36:33 -0500 From: kmcleaster@iquest.net Subject: Stock Brake Rotors '95 = '96+ ? Are the stock brake rotors for '96+ M3 interchangable with a '95 M3? I did my first track event at Putnam Park this past weekend and the brakes are now making a bit of a grinding noise, but only under moderate or heavy pedal pressure. The stock pads look fine and the brakes work fine. I'm thinking that I may have a bit of rotor warpage. Looking forward to lots of advise and comments. Regards, Kevin D.
