#1. $92 for an oil change?! - from Scott Yu

Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 14:20:46 -0400 From: "Scott Yu" <scott@ditherdog.com> Subject: $92 for an oil change?! Uhhh... am I missing something? Was that $92 a typo? I heard Dinan was expensive, but... yikes! My oil changes cost me $25 for BMW Synth and an OEM filter - am I forgetting to add something else? FWIW, Inspection II prices seem to range around $600-800 here in the northeast. I didn't know that when I bought my M3 (out of warranty), and it prompted me to learn how to do it by myself... I think I paid a little over $200 in parts. It took me a LONG time to finish, though - I started in November and it was so cold in Boston, I could only do a little bit at a time. Changing spark plugs outside in 9-degree weather is definitely not recommended... :P scott yu > -------------------- 6 -------------------- > Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 10:31:31 -0700 (PDT) > From: Juan Carlos Bruce-Novoa <jbruce@stanford.edu> > Subject: Expensive service in the Bay Area > > Well all this talk about expensive service in the Bay Area hit home today. > I took my 95 M3 into Dinan for an oil change ($92 with synthetic) and <---------------------------snipped--------------------------> > Juan Bruce

#2. ah HA! (2001 lap) - from Kit Wetzler

Sweet. ;-) Ah HA! so THAT's what that thing was in Group 4 last weekend... I couldn't figure out why a bone stock looking 528e was doing such a great job of keeping in front of me! aiya! :) BTW, for anyone in the bay area that needs their service lights reset or fault codes read, I'm perfectly happy to do so with my peake research fault code reader. Just drop me an email, I live in sunnyvale. Payment not required, of course beer is appreciated. :) I am gonna order a LiteOff pretty soon, too so I can reset airbag lights as well... The seat belt tensioner is cheap, BTW... about $50 +/- 10 depending on where you get it... I guess I should've ordered one while I had the seat out of the car... :) Also, Leatherique is still the best thing out there for leather. I'm amazed at how well it works, although I gotta pull my passenger seat and give it a heathly treatment, because it looks a different shade then my driver's seat, now. :) -kit, master of overly random posts

Bill is a CCA Club Racer, and was just written up in the Roundel for his exploits at a Rally outside Vegas. Although I've never driven with him, I have been in a car being harrowed by him trying to pass. Very fun. I also heard Jim got a little green as Bill tossed that 5er around Buttonwillow -- but that's just a rumour. ;-) -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

I enjoy being a passenger on the track; I almost always learn something, and more importantly, I have fun! That was the first time I had ridden with Bill, and after about 3 laps the tires (year-old MXX3s) cried "uncle" :-) (And unfortunate for Bill, the session was 5 minutes shorter than we expected, so he had to run to his race car as the CR qualifying session was immediately after that Group 4 session. He said it worked out well, though, as he had some clear track after getting out a bit late.) ObE36M3C: I wish I could drive my M3 as well, and as fast, as Bill drove that 528e(i). Jim

#6. Driving school costs aka 'open mouth, insert foot' - from Mount, Mike

Not on the west coast, that and a bit of extra cash would pay for 2. Of course here in the Golden State, we get scenic summer schools at Willow Springs (avg August temp ~ 72) Thunderhill (avg Aug ~ 75) and of course beautiful Buttonwiller (76 on a scorching hot day). Laguna Seca is quite often booked with the races. Mike ps, all temps are Celsius, not Fahrenheit Sheesh, talk about short term memory .... what, was it 4 weeks ago now? I guess I owe a BIG "Sorry" to the fine folks of the Sandy Eggo Chapter of the BMWCCA for consistently holding costs down at their great schools at Buttonwillow Raceway. $320 smackers for 2 days o' track time, a very nice welcome gathering Friday night, tasty bbq and raffle at Motel 6 (they'd keep the lights on but we're having a 'Gray-out' in Ca.) next to scenic I-5 in beautiful (ewwww, what's that smell?) downtown Buttonwillow <sun-fun-stay-play>. And, some of the nicest goodies along with the fun. Mike

#8. What's a '97 coupe worth in SF Bay Area - from Scott Chan
Top
Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 17:01:47 -0700 From: Scott Chan <scottch@juniper.net> Subject: What's a '97 coupe worth in SF Bay Area A co-worker is interested in buying my 5-speed coupe with 23,000 miles. Since I was planning to sell it later this year, I am entertaining the idea. Local dealers are advertising low-mileage 97-98 cars in the $35-38k range, Edmunds says tradein $25-26, retail $29-30k KBB says wholesale $24k, retail $36k (! is that a spread, or what!) Does anybody have recent experience to guide me? I'm looking for a fair price, don't want to gouge my co-worker but don't want to give it away, either. -- Scott

Personality and looks come from his mom, eh? Same fascination with speed though as his old man. But don't some of those curious family 'traits' skip a generation? I use that little bit of trivia when my 18 yo son starts getting cocky "You'll end up with a kid just like me if you aren't carefull..." works like a charm. Mike obmwm3 content > a euro M3 trounced the field. ps, did you know the pit bunny raced last weekend at B/W? Did a remarkable job avoiding spinning camaros and 'stangs in a mixed field of the CCA and CMC. On the other hand, she's picked up some bad habits from the camaro crowd; like carrying a switchblade in her driving suit, a .357 in Guido's glovebox, and using a different finger for a 'point by.' Don't tick her off. I've got some pics developed and will have to scan 'em soon. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Powell [mailto:jsp98m3@apexcone.com] Sent: Friday, April 27, 2001 4:42 PM To: Mount, Mike Cc: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] Driving school costs aka 'open mouth, insert foot' Plus you get to eat barbeque with me, the Pit Bunny and Demon Spawn. But I'm sure if those Mudthangs get in her way, she'll flash them a grin and punt them off track. But just between you and me (and the rest of the list), I think they were scared of her rollbar padding. Did you get a good look at it? She *IS* from the Bay area, if you know what I mean.... Jim
