While I have seen people mount 255 Kumho's on the stock 7.5" wheels, I would not recommend that. It makes the sidewall too flexible. Also, the 255/40 is only a little shorter that the 245/45. I run the 245/40's all the way around, with 7.5" wheels in front, and the 8.5" in back, since I have a 97. After 25-30 laps or so, I remount the front tires inside out, otherwise I cord the outside (stock camber). They work well for me, but I have never tried the Hoosiers. #4. Big Brake Kits... - from Jeff Lin

Date: Sun, 29 Apr 2001 21:00:53 -0700 From: "Jeff Lin" <jeffreylin@worldnet.att.net> Subject: Big Brake Kits... Bora asked about Big Brake Kits... Well I'll chime in on the Porshe Brakes... Today I tracked by Boxster 'S' at Laguna Seca. The 'S' has the brakes off the 996. Brakes area about 12.5" in Front and about 11.8" in the Rear. Rotors are cast with holes... MY RECOMMENDATION IS PORSCHE!!! ABSOLUTELY NO FADE, Virtually no sign of Pad Wear and VERY LITTLE Brake Dust on the Wheels!! These brakes ROCK!!! BMW Should put these on the M Cars!!! Laguna is a VERY hard on Brakes....With My E36 M3 the brakes would be faded after 5 laps with stock pads and the rotors were always likely to warp.... They worked great with ducts and PF 90s, but it was ALWAYS a pain to swap out pads B4 and AFter every track event...The stock pads and the PF90s were always very dusty. The PF 90s do not work when cold and ARE EXPENSIVE. I had to rebuld at least 1 caliper a year because the dust boots would over heat and crack or the boot would come out of the piston (not the fluid seal). I Want to PUT Porsche Brakes on My M5!!! JL

Turning around in a parking lot, the throttle stuck wide open, nailed a curb going 30 or so (1st gear). Left front suspension is screwed (wheel doesn't turn). Left fender is bent out. Front bumper is cracked and misplaced. Front left wheel is trashed (Forgeline), as well as left rear wheel. Needless to say, I am sad. Any recommendations for shops in Dallas/Ft. Worth area? I remember going to a dyno session two Winters ago and Don Fields would say, "hang on...hang on....there, you hear? It's pinging....you hear it?" To me...it almost sounded the same. Not even sure how it would sound in the car. But anyway, what I noticed from around then was if I'm in 5th and turning around 2500 rpms and then go to wide-open-throttle, all sounds smooth, but then I hear this strange raspy noise from the engine. Sounds more like it's coming from the airbox. It goes away as soon as the car reaches 4500 rpms or so. I thought it was my car only, but when I drove Jim El Nabli's car around for a while, the same noise was heard under similar conditions. Anyone know what this is? There is a recall on accelerator cable linkage but for some reason 95 M3s are not part of the recall. Nevertheless, the same thing happened to me and I almost crashed at a very high speed. The parts in question are two cable clips with a total cost of probably $1 and they take about 5 minutes to install. I am urging all of you to take a look at your cruise/accelerator cables and see if you want to put these clips on. I believe there is a nice picture of these clips on an E30 M3 web site.
