Yes, that makes sense I have a '99 M3 and the 22mm was a tad bit loose on the stock strut shaft now that I think about it. I didn't have a 21mm sitting around to try it out, but I bet it would have fit better. The 22mm fit perfect on the Bilstein. > > As for holding the strut shaft still while you remove the top > nut, this is where the 6 mm allen bit or 8 mm (I think) > socket come in to play. You are actually bolting the housing into the strut hat. Well, maybe I was a bit tired by this time but I could have sworn it moved, although what you say makes perfect sense. Then again, since my vice was in the house and I was in the garage I decided to sit down on my lazy ass and use my feet as a vice so maybe I was moving the entire housing... > > > Oh, BTW. Nut, Bolt who cares :) Yeah your right I used a nut, err I mean my co-worker used a nut when he welded it. > But thanks to Andy, I guess I will have to go to Craftsman. > I hate to spend $15 for a socket and then grind it off but if I must. > > Lowell Seaton > '95 M3 > Dallas, Texas > Sears must be a bit expensive down in Texas. I paid $10 in Chicago. I'll sell you one for $10 plus $2 shipping. Hey, you'll save $3!!!!! Andy K.

If you use them with the stock springs you need to cut the bump stop. I taled to the guys at turner where I bought both the h&r springs and bilstein sports and they said NOT to cut the bump stops when I asked them about that. I've had the car for a few days and it doesn't seem to be bottoming out on the front at all..... Andy K.

Anybody out there = have one? What's your experience? Are they back ordered, or are they readily available? Are they getting big dealer markups like the new = E46 M3? Is the steptronic recommended? Is the V8 much better than the 6? =20 Thanks for responding off line. =20 Joe Dyer

#6. Keep Bondo off my M3 - from Bob Larson

Noone in either car at the time. So the other party's insurance made an estimate that did not include replacing the sliced open bumper cover. The body shop I took it to did the estimate for replacement. Does anyone have experience in convincing an ins. co. that "durex" or bondo is not appropriate on an M3? Bob Larson Portland,OR

#8. bump stop trimming? - from Barrett Nicholas
Top
Date: 3 May 2001 09:56:06 CDT From: Barrett Nicholas <barrett.nicholas@usa.net> Subject: bump stop trimming? I'm running H&R 29910s with the Bilstein sport struts - and didn't trim my bump stops (I did the install before this was common knowledge). Anyone have a good reference for instructions? I think Jim C. had a few pics on his web site once, but either they're gone, or I'm not looking in the right place. Anyone who's running my suspension setup care to give a before/after report? Since I do my own work, I'm not particulary looking forward to what I remember as what looked liked a messy job (beyond the basic strut r&r), so any encouragement would be welcome! tia, Barrett Houston, Texas ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1

#9. door handle starting to fail? - from Barrett Nicholas

Date: 3 May 2001 10:01:38 CDT From: Barrett Nicholas <barrett.nicholas@usa.net> Subject: door handle starting to fail? Both the interior and exterior door handles on my sedan are starting to take more force to open, with a comporably more pronounced drop in force in the action as the door latch releases, compared to the other doors. Has anyone else seen this and determined the root cause, and if so, a fix? Or am I boldly going where no man has gone....? tia, Barrett Houston, Texas ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1

(not that it really matters probably) Mine is a '99 and I had similar problems last summer. It got to the point where I couldn't even get into my car through the drivers side (embarrasing when it looks like you're breaking into an M3 in a public parking lot). Went to the dealer and they just went in and lubed everything up. The problem came back a month or so later and I just used some Valvoline synthetic-lube-somethingorother spray (with the little plastic straw attachment) and sprayed all up in the door latches and latching points and everything has been fine since.
