Both the interior and exterior door handles on my sedan are starting to take more force to open, with a comporably more pronounced drop in force in the action as the door latch releases, compared to the other doors. Barrett Houston, Texas Reply; Barrett; There is a strike plate for the latch of the door on the frame of the door on the chassis. This strike plate has 2 screws. The strike plate can be adjusted a little up and down. I have never done this but have heard someone else talk about how moving this helped them. Perhaps the combination of lube along with appropriate movement of the strike plate might help things? Of course, YMMV and I have no personal experience with this particular modification ;-)) Marc 1995 M3 LTW Hey, my doors are lighter and easier to open (and dent...aluminmum you know).

#2. E36 M3/4 Seats - from joseph lerner

Date: Thu, 3 May 2001 12:02:03 -0400 From: "joseph lerner" <jlaj@msn.com> Subject: E36 M3/4 Seats Last week I had my driver seat covers replaced due to wear. Now the seat back seems to have too much play. When stopping hard the seat back comes foward then goes back as you slow. This is quite annoying and the dealer claims they didn't do it. Anybody know of a fix for this. Thanks in advance Joseph _____ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com <http://explorer.msn.com>

#3. FS DINAN susp kit for E36M3-NEW - from Lew Becker

Date: Thu, 3 May 2001 09:11:51 -0700 From: "Lew Becker" <lmbeckercfls@earthlink.net> Subject: FS DINAN susp kit for E36M3-NEW For those that might be interested, the following was posted on the UUC Digest last night. I know nothing about the seller. I know a bit about the Dinan Bilstein Stage 3 suspension -- they are rare (Dinan stopped offering Bilstein set-ups some time ago) and comfortable (the Bilsteins are custom valved, with the bump stops cut). I've had one in my 97 M3/2 for almost 4 years; although I've made some "changes" to it, I don't regret for a minute going with this suspension. I don't recall what I paid for it. #5. Throttle-Cable Clip - from Lee Hassig
Top
Date: Thu, 3 May 2001 12:24:14 -0400 From: "Lee Hassig" <lhassig@earthlink.net> Subject: Throttle-Cable Clip Folks, =20 I just installed the clips (brackets) on the throttle and cruise = control cables. One of the brackets is one shown on the E30 M3 site (35 40 1 = 165 393), with a single clip at one end and a double clip at the other. The other clip (35 40 1 165 394) has a two-inch extension of the wire after the double clip. =20 For access to the cables, I removed an electrical connector from the = aft side of the mass airflow sensor. The connector on my car (6/94 build) = is secured by a metal spring-clip arrangement. Push it toward the front of the car with your finger, and it pops open, allowing you to unplug the connector. =20 The inboard cable on my car clips curves sharply upward and fits into a bracket on the dip-stick tube. I installed 393 on that cable because it appeared to me that the extension on 394 wasn't intended for that location. (I can't figure out from Bentley for certain whether that's the throttle cable or the cruise-control cable, but I believe it's the latter.) =20 It helps to pinch the cables into the brackets from above and below rather than simply trying to push the brackets onto the cables from above. =20 Plug the connector back in and you're done. =20 Lee Hassig (expecting to hear any minute that I've put the brackets on the wrong cables) '95 M3 =20

#7. Koni SA settings Revisited - from David Hogg
Top
Date: Thu, 3 May 2001 12:25:37 -0700 From: "David Hogg" <springwood@blazenet.net> Subject: Koni SA settings Revisited Thanks to all who weighed in privately on this matter. I just spoke with Jim at Pro Parts West, who recommended 1/2 turn from full soft both front and rear for desirable street settings. Since my M3/4 is street driven only, AND because the list recommendations clustered around these settings also (but just a little stiffer because we're maniacs), I'm going to take Jim's advice. Just thought I'd let you know. If anybody wants a follow-up report after they're on the car, I'll do that, but I'll tell you now that it will ride better than stock and with more control. There's the report in advance. Dave Hogg

#8. hvac mildew smell - from Barrett Nicholas
Top
Date: 3 May 2001 11:35:40 CDT From: Barrett Nicholas <barrett.nicholas@usa.net> Subject: hvac mildew smell OK, since I'm writing email, might as well hit this one as well. I'm tired of living with the mildew smell that the hvac puts out. I've used the Wurth hvac cleaner, that usually buys me about 6 months. Has anyone cracked open their hvac system, maybe had a blower die on them or something? It'd be nice to talk with someone who's been there, done that with respect to opening up the dashwork and vents - I need to tear it all open and find the source of the mildew and kill it. I've tried to see if I can tell if the condensate drip tube is blocked by running a piece of weed eater line up it, but it feels like there might be a piece of foam that's in the line (maybe to keep insects out?) - I think it's time to crack it open and get to the source. tia, Barrett ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1

What did you think? This is a re-send of a message I sent to the list last week: -------------------------------- For those of you who have been wondering about the S-03's... I was lucky enough to have been invited to the Bridgestone Potenza challenge today -- an event that Bridgestone holds for it's dealers to try out their new tires vs. their competitors. After all the tires my local Wheel Works swapped for me over the past year -- and the fact that I just bought 5 RE730's for my wife's 328 -- the manager threw me a bone. Some of you may have heard of the format before. They had three identical '01 325i Sports. They each had faux-M Countours with 225/50-16 tires -- each with different tires. All the tires had their sidewalls shaved so you couldn't tell which was which. You were given a few laps around a simple autocross course (a couple of sweepers, a chicago box, and a short slalom) -- but not before they wetted it down thoroughly with a water truck. ;-) One car had Michelin XGT's, one had new Potenza RE950's, the other car had half-worn RE950's. The car with Michelin's pushed like a pig through the sweepers at any speed. The new RE950's on the other hand felt great -- very easy to to fly through the slalom at speed. Amazingly, the half-worn 950's handled even _better_. They accelerated great, the ABS didn't kick on under hard braking, and the cornering was superb. The last trial was a 4th car, but this one had MM11's and the new S-03 (half-worn) in 215/45-17's (the stock 17" size for the 325i). The handling was great. Maybe I've been driving on my Pirelli's for too long, but those tires just wouldn't let up. Absolutely amazing. The only downside to all of this? These tires are ungodly expensive. I can't believe how much they're getting for them. The S-03 will sell for more than the current S-02, which is not going away. Estimated Tire Rack price for the S-03 is about $250 -- putting the street price to somewhere in the neighborhood of $300-$325. I don't think I'll be buying a set any time soon, but I have developed a whole new respect for the product line. -peterg P.S. As an aside, one of the instructors there saw me pull up in my M3, so he introduced me to one of the other instructors - who turns out to be a former lister and an employee of TC Kline, Brian Leib. Small world.
